Liverpool shooting: Moment assault rifle-wielding gunman fires shots before rampage at cinema filled with kids

THIS is the moment a gunman opened fire in a shop before going on a rampage outside a packed cinema.

A 49-year-old man was arrested after a gunman stormed the Showcase Cinema de Lux in Liverpool last night as terrified families watched Wonko.

The shocking video shows the attacker entering a nearby kiosk at 8 p.m.

Wearing a hoodie, sweatpants and flip-flops, he was seen threatening the shop assistant and demanding cash before firing a gun and leaving the store empty-handed.

The shop assistant was not injured during the incident.

Less than an hour later, he entered the cinema complex and threatened two employees in the foyer, before leaving.

When he got outside, he fired several shots into the air before fleeing in a car. No one was injured.

Around 10:20 p.m., new gunshots were heard on the property in Malpas Street.

This morning officers revealed that Armed Response officers arrested a 49-year-old man from Fazakerley at 4.46am this morning.

Officers say the man was aggressive and used a taser when officers arrived at the property.

The man, who was arrested on suspicion of possessing a section 1 firearm with intent to endanger life and robbery, was taken to Merseyside Police Station where he remains in custody.

Armed police swarmed the area last night and families were escorted to safety from the cinema near East Lancs Road.

Craig Moorhead, 35, who took his daughter to see Wonka, said he was kept at the cinema for 45 minutes.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, he said: “When we came out of the cinema, an armed police emergency response team came running.

“I was talking to the girl on the table, apparently some guy pointed a shotgun at her. She was in shock and could barely speak.

– The woman said he was wearing flip flops or something like that.

Assistant Chief Constable Jenn Wilson said: “I can report that a 49-year-old man has been arrested following three shots fired in the Croxteth and Norris Green areas last night.

“Fortunately, incidents like this, involving one offender in three separate shootings in close proximity and in quick succession, are extremely rare and this is the first time we have had to deal with an incident of this nature on the streets of Merseyside.

TIME PLAN OF EVENTS

20:00 – News and liquor store on Lower House Lane, Norris Green

The man threatened the shop assistant and demanded cash before firing a gun and leaving the store empty-handed.

The store clerk was not injured during the incident, but was extremely shaken by the ordeal. No damage was done to the store.

20.50 – Showcase Cinema at Stonedale Shopping Park in Croxteth

A man armed with a gun entered the cinema complex and threatened two members of staff in the foyer, before leaving.

When he got outside, he fired several shots into the air before fleeing in a car.

No one was injured or materially damaged during this incident.

10.20 pm – Malpas road

More shots are heard. No one was injured during the incident.

4.46 am – Fazakerley

Armed police arrested a 49-year-old man at the property on suspicion of possession of a section 1 firearm with intent to endanger life and robbery.

“The shocking and distressing effect these incidents will have on the shop assistant, staff at Showcase Cinema and those moviegoers who found themselves on lockdown in the complex after shots were fired outside the cinema and the residents of Malpas Road cannot be understated.”

Chief Constable Wilson said officers were on the scene immediately after the first incident and praised her officers for their quick response.

She added: “I would appeal to anyone with information about those involved in gun crime or who knows where guns are being stored to contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 so we can further reduce the harm these guns are causing in our communities.

“If you saw what happened or have any mobile phone or CCTV footage of the incident, please contact us urgently as you may have information that is vital to our investigation. All submitted information will be acted upon. “

A Showcase Cinemas spokesman said: “We are aware of an incident in and around our cinema in Liverpool.

“The safety and well-being of our staff and customers is always our first priority and we can confirm that no one was injured.

“We would like to thank our team members and local law enforcement for their quick response to this active investigation.”
