Lizzo Leaves Veganism, Says Animal Proteins 'Help with My Mental Fog'

Lizzo shared that she is taking a break from veganism and reintroducing animal protein into her diet, posting a video on Instagram documenting what she eats in a day.

The singer of the song “Good as Hell” (36) said that her “reacquaintance with proteins” began with a trip to Japan.

“Someone suggested I try the Japanese diet because it’s one of the healthiest diets in the world, and it has some of my favorite foods,” said the Grammy winner.

As the National Library of Medicine explains, “The traditional Japanese diet (Washoku), characterized by high consumption of fish and soy products and low consumption of animal fat and meat, relies on the effective use of umami flavors to enhance taste.”

After being vegan for four years, Lizzo says she’s reintroducing animal protein into her diet.

As Lizzo explains, she was immediately taken by the kitchen.

“When I arrived in Japan, I was blown away by how clean and delicious their food was,” she said. “I enjoyed fresh sushi and a scrambled egg and was amazed at how good I felt the next day.”

“It set me on a journey to understand how animal protein affects my body,” she said.

Lizzo – who first embarked on her vegan journey in 2020 – said “after tests and research, I found that animal protein helped me have more energy, lose weight and helped with my mental fog.”

In the video, Lizzo shared clips of herself eating animal proteins such as egg white cups, Buffalo chicken wrapped in lettuce, and grilled chicken with asparagus and carrots, along with okra water and lemon water.

“I believe a vegan diet is still the healthiest diet and I want to be a raw alkaline vegan one day.”

Lizzo addressed Ozempico’s allegations as she revealed ‘5 months of weight training and a calorie deficit’

Alkaline foods have a pH higher than 7.0 and include foods such as beets, kale and peppers.

“Until then,” she said, “this is the diet that has helped me reach my goals and helped me feel good about my body.”

She admitted that “it can be scary to talk about because veganism is such a sensitive topic.”

“People are vegan for many reasons, whether it’s health or the environment or love of animals or all of the above,” she said.

“I’m aware of how people might take this and how it would make them feel,” she said, saying she would “prefer to be honest and share my story in my own words.”

And “whether you’re vegan, pescatarian, only white meat or a full-on carnivore, I won’t judge you. Do what’s best for you in life at that moment.”

“The only thing that matters is that you’re happy,” she said. “And if you’re happy, I’m happy.”
