Loren Broadbent and his wife, Patricia Broadbent, adopted Hydeia Broadbent, who was abandoned by her mother at birth at the University of Southern Nevada Medical Center in Las Vegas.
Hydeia was 6 months old when Loren and Patricia Broadbent took her in as a foster child. The couple adopted her when Hydeia was 3 years old. Around the same time. Loren and his wife knew Hydeia was born HIV positive with progression to AIDS. It was predicted that he would not live more than 5 years.
