‘Lovable’ Dog at Shelter for Over 900 Days Is Returned 1 Day After Her Long-Awaited Adoption

After almost three years in the care of the Valley Animal Center in Fresno, California, Labrador retriever and pit bull mix Sora finally found a home, but the adoption was unfortunately short-lived.

The day after the dog left the shelter, her new owner called the Valley Animal Center to say they would be taking the pet back.

Sora first arrived at the Valley Animal Center — the largest shelter in California’s Central Valley — more than 900 days ago after the dog’s previous owner surrendered the pet. Since then, Sora has not attracted much attention from potential adopters, which surprises the shelter staff who know the dog well.

“She’s great at walks and hikes, which makes her a good companion. She also likes to play with tennis balls. She’s sweet with people and has done well with children over five,” Sim Kaur, Valley Animal Center’s graphic network designer, said. is yes Newsweek.

When Sora recently caught the eye of a prospective pet parent who decided to adopt her, the shelter rejoiced. After the owner returned the puppy to the shelter 24 hours later, Kaur was critical of their quick decision. She stated that Sora should have been given more time to adjust.

“Sora didn’t get enough time to decompress in her new home and was introduced to new family members too quickly,” Kaur said. Newsweek.

Valley Animal Center posted about Sora’s return to the shelter in a Facebook Reel highlighting dogs that have been returned to the shelter after being adopted.

“Their tails were wagging with hope as they were welcomed to their new home. However, after a short time, these shelter dogs found themselves back in their homes. They are still hoping that somewhere out there is their future home where they will be nurtured as they deserve,” the shelter captioned the video, which begins with Sora with her face against her kennel.
