Kenneth Gorman and Brittany Mills may not have married Love is blindbut they still remain best friends today.
During Wednesday’s Season 6 reunion, Kenneth and Brittany updated fans on their relationship today, noting that while they’re not back together romantically, they talk “every day” and are “extremely close” as friends.
“We’re in a really good place,” Brittany said of her current relationship with her ex-fiancé.
Speaking to PEOPLE about the state of their friendship today, Brittany, 25, opens up about how close they are.
“Kenneth and I, after the experience, ended on a very good note and have remained very close friends,” she says. “I can say we’ve talked, and it’s natural and it’s still organic and we’re both there for each other.”
“Actually the night it happened and we decided to break up, we decided, ‘Hey, we had this experience together, and it’s something that’s so important and so special. And we’re not going to just throw it away,'” she continues. “And we stayed friends and I’m really grateful for that.”

Kenneth, 26, had a similar perspective while speaking with PEOPLE, saying that he and Brittany are “best friends.”
“We talk every day on the phone at this point. We share so many moments of just everyday life,” he explains. “Every time something happens, we say, ‘Oh, I have to call Brittney.’ She says, ‘Oh, I have to call Ken.’ That’s us.”
“I think the love we have for each other and the bond we’ve created will never die,” he adds. “I have so much respect for her, so much love for her. And the fact that we are, now, a year after that experience, and that we are still so strongly connected to her, just shows me, again, that we were meant to come and spend one with others.”
During Season 6, Brittany and Kenneth made up with each other before becoming one of the first couples to get engaged. With hardly any drama between the two of them — aside from what seemed like awkwardly quiet moments on their getaway to the Dominican Republic — Brittany and Kenneth seemed like a pretty promising couple.
But things changed when they returned to Charlotte, North Carolina, and the two had to continue their daily lives as a unit. In particular, Kenneth always seemed to be on his phone and the two were on different pages when it came to physical love and a “craving” for PDA. Ultimately, the couple decided to go their separate ways in an emotional moment during episode 8.

When it comes to Kenneth’s phone use, Brittany previously told PEOPLE that their breakup had nothing to do with it. (She also echoed those sentiments at Wednesday’s reunion.)
“We were joking [his phone usage], and we talked about it, of course, while we were filming … and it really didn’t bother me at the time,” she told PEOPLE. “I definitely take his career into consideration, number one, because it’s extremely important to Kenneth, and I think we all know that. And so in my mind, even though yes, I could have been like, ‘Oh, get off the phone.’ No, it was more like, I know what he’s doing. He has a career. He has to take care of the whole school. Children to grow, learn.”
“And I think that’s very important to remember because it didn’t necessarily rub me the wrong way,” she continued. “Whenever I needed something or needed a conversation, his phone would ring. And that’s how I felt. Whether it was portrayed that way or not, those were my feelings and that was our story.”

As for their physical connection, the former couple was asked at the reunion if they ever thought about having sex to “add to the lust” they were missing, but Brittany dismissed the idea.
– Entering into this, I promised myself… I will wait until marriage – she said, pointing out that they were often asked this question. “It’s an add-on, and it’s more of an add-on, and I shouldn’t test it first and then make a decision. I wanted to be 100 percent confident and that was my choice. We agreed to promise ourselves and each other… and it really wasn’t should be tested to understand where we are.”
