Warning: This story contains spoilers from episodes 1-6 Love is blind season 6

Bean sauce took on a whole new meaning Love is blind season 6 — and now Clay Gravesande is weighing in.

Speaking to PEOPLE about the awkward “bean sauce” joke Jeramey Lutinski made to his fiancee Amber Desiree “AD” Smith while the couples were in Punta Cana, Clay says he wasn’t bothered by it, nor was he surprised that his colleague to say such a thing.

“I think I said my reaction … when he said that at the beginning, I was just like, ‘Bro, what are you talking about?'” Clay, 31, recalled. “But me and Jeramey had a weird joke when we talked about things like that. So it didn’t really throw me off. I was just surprised that Jeremy said it at that particular time, but I’m not surprised that he said it.”

“[There’s] no bad blood,” he adds. “I didn’t even think about it the next day.”

Jeramey, 32, was talking to Jimmy Presnell, Clay and AD, 32, about how his engagement to Laura Dadisman has progressed so far when he made a “bean sauce” joke between the women.

“She told me to do it to you, and I said, ‘She’s going to fucking fire me!'” he told AD, who was clearly shocked and replied, “Don’t, I’ll fight you.”

While Jeramey joked that Laura was “trying to set me up with some bulls—,” AD explained to Clay and Jimmy that “bean sauce is like this t–ty smack… [Laura] he knocked s— my t–ties.”

AD eventually walked away from the conversation, but soon returned with Laura, who came over to clarify. While Clay quipped that Laura’s joke “offended me,” Laura told Jeramey that he was “making something out of nothing” and reiterated that she only said that “in jest.”

Speaking to Laura alone after the awkward conversation, AD told her, “I think it’s funny to us, but to Clay – it’s not funny.”

Laura then replied, “I need Clay to freaking relax” – which didn’t sit well with AD. “Wait, don’t relax because telling another man that…” AD said, slapping her chest.

Laura insisted again that it was a “fucking joke,” and AD pointed out, “Well, he doesn’t know that joke… [it may be] nothing to you, but [it’s] something to him.”

Clay and Jeramey also talked, and Clay told his colleague, “I won’t blame you.” Jeramey then remarked, “Your wife may have taken that offensively and I apologize for that.”

“She’ll be good, I’ll roll her up,” Clay replied.
