“Therapy is a great place to let it all out and not have to walk on eggshells with each other,” Lauren Speed-Hamilton tells PEOPLE about how her marriage to Cameron Hamilton works
Lauren Speed-Hamilton and Cameron Hamilton are one of the most loved couples to come out Love is blindbut even they had to work for their marriage.

“I think we just deal with things head-on,” explains Lauren, 36. “We don’t let things fester. Of course, sometimes you need to take a moment to breathe so you don’t act out of emotion … So we take our moments and then for me, I go right up to Cam and say, “Hey, this happened. I feel like we should talk about it. That made me feel that way. How did you feel?” ‘ And I think that really helped us throughout our marriage.”
“Don’t let it fester. Don’t go to bed angry at each other because nothing good can come of that. And therapy, couples therapy too,” he emphasizes.

Cameron, 33, credits the effort they both put into their marriage as the main reason it lasted despite their unorthodox start.
“I think when it comes to marriage or any long-term relationship, man, it’s just a lot of work. It’s worth it, but it’s a lot of work,” he shares. “And so for people who are getting into them, it’s just something to keep in mind that you’re constantly on the clock and you get out of it what you put in.”
“If you’re willing to have those tough conversations that might be a little uncomfortable, you’ll have that peace of mind,” he continues. “But if you don’t address it, you stress about it like, ‘God, I just wish this could be resolved,’ but you don’t take any steps to resolve it, it’s not good.”

Addressing their issues head-on is also something they had to do in couples therapy, which Cameron says “came along probably within our second year of marriage” and has only benefited them ever since.
“I personally hadn’t been in therapy before. I was one of those people who felt like, ‘Oh, if I go to therapy, I’m admitting some kind of weakness or something.’ But my perspective has completely changed since then,” he explains. “I think that’s something that, given your mindset and your willingness to have that dialogue with your therapist and your partner, I think that’s something that would be super helpful [to couples].”
Lauren agrees, noting that “we wanted a safe space where we could both express ourselves, which we don’t have a problem expressing, but I think it’s a good vent.”
“Therapy is a great place to get it all out there and not have to walk on eggshells with each other,” she says. “It’s a place where you can get everything out. It’s been a big help for us.”
Chipping in, Cameron adds, “Especially just understanding… ’cause sometimes it’s like you just needed a little help figuring out how to communicate that. You want to communicate, you’re open to communication, but for whatever reason, maybe there’s some kind of disconnect between what one person is saying and what another person is saying. Maybe you’re really on the same page, you just need that link to bring it all together.”

Lauren and Cameron met and married in the first season of Netflix Love is blind. They’ve been fan favorites ever since and celebrated their fifth anniversary in November by renewing their vows at the Bellagio Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.
“I feel like a flash,” Lauren told PEOPLE at the time. “We feel so blessed and happy. Every day it seems like I’m falling more and more in love with Cam, which I didn’t even know was possible. So I’m happy that we’re where we are now and for our growth and proud of us. ”
Cameron added: “Five years is both a long time and not a very long time… it’s gone very quickly but there have been moments where marriage has required a lot of work. You have to put in a lot to get it to a good place, it feels great about where we are. So I’m really grateful for those moments where it’s been challenging because that ultimately leads to a stronger marriage.”

On the career front, the two run their YouTube channel Hanging with the Hamiltons and recently announced their return to reality TV as hosts to PEOPLE. Lauren also co-hosted a podcast called We have bills with Chris Burns and plans to start a non-profit organization for underserved women in the Atlanta and Detroit areas.
Recently, the two teamed up with Lay’s to launch a new chip and introduce fans to their “Marry Me” chicken, the dish that sealed the deal on their relationship. The tenders are made with Lay’s new “swicy” potato chips, and the recipe also features a sweet and spicy dipping sauce created by the Hamiltons.
“I think we all know by now that Lay’s is America’s favorite potato chip,” says Cameron. “So I think for us, why this made perfect sense, this partnership is Lay’s Sweet and Spicy Chips with honey flavor. I mean, it represents Lauren and me because we’re a sweet-spicy duo. We’re the yin to each other’s yang, that kind of perfect harmonies of sweet and spicy. Swicy, if you will. Well, I think if you were to put us in the shape of a chip, this would be a chip.”
“Exactly,” Lauren adds. “It’s perfect!”
