MK Stalin was born on March 1, 1953 in Chennai (then Madras), Tamil Nadu, India. His original name was Muthuvel Karunanidhi Stalin. His father was Karu. Dayalu Ammal, the second wife of M. Karunanidhi. He was named after Soviet revolutionary and statesman Joseph Stalin, who died four days after his birth. He started his political journey at a very young age and was actively involved in many campaigns. During his political career, he experienced many struggles and faced many controversies. Stalin studied at Madras Christian College High School, Chennai, and graduated in History from Presidency College, Chennai. Although he came from a political family, he began campaigning in the 1967 elections at the age of just 14 years old. At the age of 20, he was elected as a member of the DMK General Committee, headed by his late father M. Karunanidhi. In 1984, Stalin contested the Assembly elections from Thousand Lights constituency in Tamil Nadu, but lost to AIADMK’s KA Krishnaswamy.
