“Unfortunately, the woman passed away, and her family is being helped by specially trained officers.
“Of course the incident has been referred to the Independent Policing Office.”
The IOPC said: “We are investigating police actions prior to the fatal road traffic collision on the M25 earlier today.
“We have directed our investigators to the scene and to the investigation to begin the process of gathering information.
“Our investigation is at a very early stage.”
Footage shows the wreckage of the vehicle strewn across all four lanes of the M25.
