Madelyn Cline and Madison Bailey’s Foreign banks the characters finally settle on the boy they want – but the actresses have another idea up their sleeve.

Ahead of the season four premiere of the hit Netflix series, Cline, 26, who plays Sarah Cameron, and Bailey, 25, who plays Kiara, tell PEOPLE about the plan they’ve been secretly hatching for their characters.

After Bailey said that the new romance between her character and JJ (Rudy Pankow) “will be the death of my gay Kiara agenda,” Cline teases that the pair “have an idea for Sarah and Kiara” to be love interests.

Cline jokes that she and Bailey are “throwing metaphorical spaghetti against the wall” with the idea — but admits, “It’s not sticking.”

Despite Sarah (Cline) being married to Chase Stokes’ John B. and Kiara finally starting to explore things with JJ after years of tension, Bailey says of their idea of Sarah and Kiara hooking up instead, “John B. and JJ will make each other very happy and it’s not like everything will be fine.”

Both admit that the on-screen romance between the girls is really just a “dream scenario”, but hey – the idea is there. And it’s not the first time Bailey has vouched for the show to explore Kiara’s possible “fluid” sexuality.

She says it’s “not quite” the story she tried so hard to push, but she made comments along the lines of “‘Are you sure? Are you sure it’s not?’

“I think everyone’s thinking, ‘She’s a little fluid. We’ll figure it out later,'” Bailey says, before teasing her, “I hope she has a lot more seasons left.”

For now, though—and despite all her and Cline’s scheming—Bailey says Kiara and JJ have finally given their chemistry a chance: “I’m rooting for them, absolutely.”

“I think Kiara might be in a more open place for a relationship and I think JJ is still catching up with himself, hence his hesitation [to commit],” she says. “I think he’s not sure if he can make me happy, he’s not sure about a lot of things, he’s not sure about himself in many, many ways, so Kiara is holding it back. I think she’s really patient. I think she understands that and a lot of it is kept quiet. I think she knows he has a lot to deal with, but [JJ is] my person.”

As they have for three seasons, the teenagers are willing to do almost anything to find gold — but both Cline and Bailey admit that in real life they would be much more hesitant.

“I have a few more questions. Kiara never asked any questions, and I’m like, ‘Are you sure about that?'” Bailey says of her character’s willingness to jump into anything. “I would ask a lot more questions, I’m not saying I wouldn’t.” [do it]It would just be harder to sell.”

“Yeah, no, I don’t have any questions,” Cline says. “Because I’m probably not even fun [the idea]. So I’ll stop you there. I’m going to need some kind of strong motivation to help, because what the hell?”

“I need a cut,” he jokes. “Honestly, at that point I understand where Rafe (Drew Starkey) is coming from. He’s like, ‘Where’s my part?’ I really get it.”
