The bad news kept coming for Madison LeCroy and her husband, Brett Randle.
After revealing earlier in the season that Brett, 38, was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in late 2023, Madison, 34, told her mom on the Jan. 9 episode Southern charm that the doctor found a tumor on Brett’s kidney.
“Brett gave me some news,” Madison told her mom, Tara, over FaceTime. “So he did some blood tests and it didn’t come back normal. And they… found a tumor on his kidney. We don’t know, we don’t know what it is, but still.”

Madison told her mother that she didn’t cry when she heard the news, but she didn’t know how to support her husband.
“If I lose him, I’d die,” Madison said. “Just somehow… I don’t know. I don’t know what to do.”
Tara tried to give her daughter some advice. “All you can do is comfort him and love him and just tell him you’re there for him,” Madison said. “I wish I had done more for your dad, but your dad went too far.”
On December 31, 2023, Madison announced that her father, Ted, had died. “He is the greatest gift, your memory will drive me forward every day,” she captioned an Instagram compilation of videos and photos of her father. “My eternal superhero 🤍.”
In the episode of January 9 Southern charmMadison called the last 12 months “definitely the worst year of my life.” “My dad was also diagnosed with cancer, but he didn’t last,” she continued. “This is life, I guess. I just f— hate it, like, fucking hate it.”
Tara continued to reassure Madison. “Whatever it is, they’ll take it, clean it up and life goes on,” she said.
Before hanging up, Madison joked about her lemonade, “I could replace this with something a little stronger.”

On the Jan. 2 episode, Madison asked Brett during a golf outing with his son Hudson if it still hurts when he swallows.
“It doesn’t necessarily hurt, I just have to think about it to swallow,” Brett said. “They have to adjust the medicines. I’ll try it for a few months and then test myself and see if I should be. And they did a scan of the spot on my kidney so … they had to do a biopsy and see what it was.”

Madison asked if Brett’s doctors thought the spot could be cancerous, but he said they didn’t know.
“If I hear the word ‘cancer’ one more time, I’m going to freak out,” Madison said in an on-camera interview. “I just kind of thought we were clean.”
Brett tried to reassure his wife that it was no longer cancer. “They said that, you know, there’s a good chance it’s nothing,” he said. “But my last few blood tests didn’t come back, so that got them worried.”

Brett also clarified that he didn’t want to tell Madison at first because he didn’t want to worry her.
“You have to tell me this,” Madison told Brett.
Brett said that growing up as one of eight children gave him the idea that he should keep things to himself. “You know I don’t talk about things,” Madison said.
“Well, I love you,” she said. “Just tell me from now on. No more secrets.”
