Madison Prewett Enlisted ‘Accountability’ Buddies to Hold Her to Purity Pledge Before Marrying Grant Troutt (Exclusive)

Madison Prewett Troutt is opening up about the big decision she made with her now-husband Grant Troutt before they got married.

In his new book, The love that everyone wants: what you seek is already yoursformer Bachelor contestant wrote about the couple’s decision to draw up and sign a vow of chastity to prevent them from having sex before marriage. To hold them accountable, the two gave their mentors a copy of their oath.

Madison, 27, tells PEOPLE that “having a community and having accountability around us was really important.”

“I think like anything in life, you can have a strong value system for something, but there will be times where pressures or temptations or opinions or whatever will come in the way that can try to take away from that or compromise and values,” she explains. “I think we had to keep reminding ourselves why — why do we choose to save for marriage?”

Madison Prewett recalls how she overcame the ‘wretchedness’ of being single as she began writing a new book about self-love

“We don’t do it to get high. We don’t do it because it’s our religious duty. We don’t do it because other people told us to do it. We do it from the heart. I really want to honor God and then keep this forever one with another alliance one day,” she adds. “That was really our why and our perspective. Then after developing our why behind that value system was really just putting people around it to just hold us accountable for it.”

Through this experience, Madison was able to learn some important lessons about discipline.

“I think I’ve learned that even in the smallest things in life, like I want to go on a diet and eat healthy, I’ve just learned that if I don’t decide before those moments of pressure and temptation, I’ll find myself going to Chick-fil-A every time and I get a milkshake and fries,” she explains. “I have to decide outside of that moment, Maddy, we’re not going to Chick-fil-A. We’re not going to eat this food and make these decisions outside of that moment knowing why. Okay, I’m not doing this because I want to be the healthiest and best version of me.”

Madison accepted Grant’s proposal in July 2022 after eight months of dating. They were married that October in Dallas, Texas.

After going through a period of chastity, the former reality star is grateful to those who stepped in as mentors along the way. She credits these people with being able to “talk about life and just remind you of your purpose and why, and also just hold you accountable and call you out.”

“You have to have friends who aren’t afraid to ask you out. I learned that the hard way,” she says. “I can’t just have people around me saying, ‘Yeah, girl. Yeah, girl.’ I have to have people around me saying, ‘No, that’s not it. That’s not cute. That’s not good. You’re better than that.’ And so I really have people in my life, who are just not afraid to call me out.”

This topic is one of many vulnerable areas that Madison touches on in her new book, which comes out on Tuesday. In doing so, she aims to help her readers understand the foundations of love and establish a sense of self-worth, something she has also worked to cultivate for herself.

“We all want love. We all want to love and be loved,” she says. “We’re desperate for it because we were made out of love and we were made for love. It’s a hole in our heart that we long to fill.”

Adds Madison, “It is my prayer that when people read this book, they will see that the love they long for is already available.”
