In PEOPLE’s exclusive sneak peek of Wednesday’s episode of the hit Lifetime series, Cameron and Clare sit down with relationship experts Cal Robinson, Dr. Pia Holec, and Dr. Pepper Schwartz on Decision Day to talk candidly about the future of their marriage.

“I’ll be clear: I… screwed up the process,” Cameron begins. “Like me – through maybe wanting to take control, through … trying to defend against what I thought would be rejection.”

“I can’t tell you the exact reason, obviously I felt the reason to do it and I regret it,” he adds.

Clare considers his words before accepting his apology and saying, “I appreciate it. It means a lot. I forgive you.”

While Cameron can admit how his actions have affected their relationship, their fate remains up in the air. After noting that his confession was “beautiful” and “a door opener,” Cal reminds the couple that they’re here to make an important decision about how to move forward with their marriage.

“The time has come for you to decide whether you want to stay apart and get a divorce or get together after the paperwork and maybe try again,” he says.
