Ryanair has urged passengers flying in and out of Britain to check their flight updates on the airline’s app, assuring them that they will be “notified” of any changes.
“Affected passengers will be notified and all passengers traveling to/from the UK today should check their Ryanair app for the latest updates on their flight,” the spokesperson said.
“We are sorry for the inconvenience caused to passengers by these weather conditions.
“They are beyond Ryanair’s control and affect all airlines flying to/from the UK today.”
Gatwick and Manchester, the UK’s second and third busiest airports, meanwhile, are among those hit by the bad weather.
A spokesman for the country’s main provider of air traffic control (ATC) services, Nats, said on Friday: “Due to widespread fog, temporary air traffic restrictions are in place today at several airports across the UK. Restrictions of this type are only ever applied to maintain security.
“We are continuing to monitor the situation and have a Met Office expert involved in our operations to ensure the latest information is available. Our teams are working closely with airports and airlines to minimize disruption.”
A Manchester Airport spokesman added: “Like most airports across the country, we have experienced delays due to fog. In most cases these delays have been short and have not caused disruption to our timetable.
“Travellers should prepare as usual and aim to arrive at the airport in accordance with their airline’s instructions – this is usually two hours before a short-haul flight and three hours before a long-haul flight.”
It comes as heavy rain is set to cause “significant disruption” ahead of the New Year.

It will last until one minute before midnight on New Year’s Day – expiring just before the start of 2025.
