This afternoon the club said: “West Ham United can confirm that Michail Antonio has undergone surgery for a broken lower limb following a car accident on Saturday afternoon.
“Michail will be under observation in the hospital for the next few days as well.
“Everyone at the club wishes Michail a speedy recovery and expresses their sincere gratitude to the football family as a whole for the overwhelming support they have shown following yesterday’s news.
“I offer my heartfelt thanks to the EMS and EMS that helped Michail immediately after the incident, and to the medical team that continues to assist him in his recovery.
“The club will provide further updates when necessary.”
Michail has been at West Ham United since 2015 and has played in a variety of positions, including right-back, right-midfield and as a winger.
The striker arrived at the club from Nottingham Forest and was named the club’s player of the year in 2017.
He eventually established himself as the club’s top scorer and on 23 August 2021 became West Ham’s top scorer in the Premier League.
Antonio made 15 appearances this season and scored once.
He is the Premier League club’s all-time top scorer with 68 goals.
Yesterday the club said: “We can confirm that Michail Antonio is in a stable condition following a car accident this afternoon in the Essex area.
“Michail is conscious and communicating and is currently under intensive care in a central London hospital.
“At this difficult time, we ask everyone to respect the privacy of Mikhail and his family.
“The club will not be making any further comment tonight but will issue a further update in due course.”
