A mother bear brought her cubs to swim in a California couple’s pool.
In a video shared on Instagram on May 6 by Monrovia couple Rick Martinez and Brian Gordon in a joint post, a mama bear can be seen walking into the yard with her cubs following behind her.
She then enters the pool and goes for a swim while her two cubs sit and watch her at a safe distance from the water.
The second and third slides show the bears looking through the glass doors of the house, while the trio are also spotted climbing a tree in another video.
“Cuteness overload… New family of bears in town, and they’re the smallest cubs we’ve ever seen 🥰. Ooo, we hope to watch them grow up happy and healthy 😊,” reads the description.

The post also shows the mama bear scratching her back against a tree, while the latest footage revealed the cub separated from its mother by a gate.
In an interview with Guard, the couple discovered that bears are frequent visitors to their mountain neighborhood. Although the first sighting was alarming, they came to enjoy the visits of their bear neighbors.
“We realized they were passing through,” Martinez told the newspaper. “They stay away from us.”

Bears are said to be very common in the Monrovia area, which is near the Angeles National Forest.
“We get a lot of wildlife around here,” Ricky Martinez told the local NBC LA affiliate. “We are always amazed when we see bears, especially a mother bear with cubs. We haven’t seen cubs in a while, and it was the cutest thing ever.”
Martinez was eating his food when he heard the noise. While the mama bear, whom the couple calls Maddie, often comes to the yard, this was the first time he had seen her with her two cubs.

We see her often, he said. “I think one of the neighbors got 400,000 likes on Instagram. She’s swinging on a swing. She was at an open house in somebody’s hot tub down the street. So we see her quite often. She even came to our pool parties. If we we are grilling, she will appear and scare everyone.”
Although Martinez and Gordon are happy to let the bears visit their yard, they told NBC LA they make sure to always keep their distance and avoid leaving trash or food outside.
“This is their country,” Martinez said Guard. “They are used to passing through here. We have healthy boundaries with them. If they are outside, we stay inside. We let them do their thing, we admire them.”
