Man Admits to Raping, Shoving Tourist to Her Death Near ‘Cinderella’ Castle

Troy Phillip Bohling has reportedly pleaded guilty to rape and murder charges less than a year after he pushed two women down a cliff near Germany’s Neuschwanstein Castle.

In the June 14, 2023 incident, 21-year-old Eva Liu was killed and 22-year-old Kelsey Chang was injured, according to The Telegraph.

“The defendant committed an unfathomable crime,” defense attorney Philip Mueller said in a statement, according to the Associated Press, citing German news agency Deutsche Presse-Agentur (DPA).

As AP reports, Bohling, who is American, did not answer any questions, but confirmed that the statement was correct. In the German legal system, defendants do not formally plead to the charges, notes AP.

According to the BBC, Mueller also told the court that Bohling did not commit his acts with intent and that he “acted spontaneously.” Mueller said Bohling was “deeply ashamed” of his actions.

The news comes months after the Michigan native was charged with murder, rape resulting in death, attempted murder and possession of child pornography. The verdict is expected to be announced in mid-March at the earliest, according to AP.

Bohling met the women while walking on a path near the castle, which is said to have been the inspiration for Disney’s Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella movies, according to The Telegraph. The two women were on a trip abroad after graduating from the University of Illinois, according to the release.

Per The Telegraph, told the women he would take them to a spot with a better view of the castle for selfies when he pushed Liu to the ground and allegedly raped her. After Chang tried to intervene, he allegedly pushed her into a precipice.

Bohling allegedly continued to rape Liu and filmed it. According to the newspaper, he allegedly strangled her with a belt and pushed her into the same grab while she was unconscious. While both women fell in the same area, Chang survived the fall, while Liu died from her injuries later that night, according to The Telegraph.
