A MAN has died and a one-year-old baby is fighting for his life after a car crashed into pedestrians.

The tragedy unfolded after the vehicle veered off the road and crashed into a wall on West Street, in the Worsbrough area of ​​Barnsley.

At 11:41 yesterday, the police responded to a report of a collision involving a blue Volkswagen Polo.

Unfortunately, a 56-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

EMS rushed the one-year-old boy to hospital where he remains in critical condition after suffering life-threatening injuries.

South Yorkshire Police confirmed the driver of the Volkswagen stopped at the scene and is co-operating with officers as part of their investigation.

Police officers urged anyone with information, video surveillance or surveillance footage to come forward.

A police spokesman said: “We are appealing for information and witnesses following the death of a man and critical injuries to a young child following a road traffic collision in Barnsley.
