A MAN mauled to death by two XL Bully dogs was allegedly protecting his elderly mother from the beasts after they jumped from a neighbour’s window.
Brave bystanders tried to wrestle the dogs from Ian Price, 52, after they attacked him in Stonall, Staffordshire, yesterday afternoon.

Mr Price tragically died from his injuries after being mauled by the animals – which police said today were believed to be XL Bully.
It is understood Mr Price was trying to protect his elderly mother from the beasts after they jumped through a neighbour’s window.
A witness told The Sun: “I saw it. It was so awful I can hardly talk about it – but he was crushed to death and it was just horrible.
“The dogs live in the neighborhood. They’ve been there for about a year.
“They went through the hedge behind the house and appeared in the old lady’s garden. Her son came out to protect her.
“We think the dogs were home alone because there were no cars outside at the time. I guess they escaped through the window.
She added: “Both dogs pounced on him. Neighbors came to help but many stood on this side of the fence because they were too scared to intervene.
“One brave man got a big stick and hit the dogs and tried to take them down, but the dogs just didn’t notice. They were furious.
“Eventually he got one dog off the man and the other ran back through the hedge to his house – but by then it was 15 to 20 minutes.”
Another resident said the owner of the dogs showed up in his van with his 18-month-old daughter just as dozens of police vehicles arrived.
They said: “He turned up after it happened and was arrested.
“He has a habit of leaving the dogs at home on the ground floor, but with an open window and they escaped through that. It’s not the first time this has happened.
“About six months ago, they escaped and chased another dog into the Premier shop.
“The owner and customers were forced to hide behind the counter before the dogs left.

“These are very large, muscular dogs. They say dogs are only as good as their owners, and they were bred for aggression.”
A worker at the Premier shop confirmed that they called the police after two out-of-control dogs broke into the store about six months ago.
She said: “It was terrifying – and everything was reported to the police.”
It is understood the victim’s wife, known locally as Heather Price, was working as a classroom assistant at the local primary school – which was locked at the end of the day when the attack happened at around 3pm.
One local said: “The poor woman would have been told she couldn’t leave her job because of this attack, but she wouldn’t have been aware that it was her husband who was being attacked.”
DEATH’S BREAK
Members of the public tackled one of the dogs after the attack – and the other dog was eventually confined to the owner’s apartment.
The police announced today that one of the dogs died after being tied up, and the other after being injected by a veterinarian.
In horrific scenes, St Peter’s Primary Academy was locked down and children were not allowed to leave for “safety reasons”.
A man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter after initially being arrested on suspicion of running dogs dangerously out of control.
Rishi Sunak has today confirmed that XL Bully dogs will be banned by the end of the year to stop violent attacks.
Mr Sunak said: “Clearly this is not a few poorly trained dogs, it is a pattern of behavior and it cannot continue.”
Photos emerged yesterday of the scene of the terrifying attack that took place near a local school.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “On arrival we found a man who had suffered multiple life-threatening injuries and was in a critical condition.
“Emergency personnel provided him with advanced life support and advanced trauma care at the scene.
“Treatment continued en route to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital where he was transferred by land ambulance for further treatment.
“Unfortunately, after arriving at the hospital, despite all efforts it became clear that nothing more could be done to save him, he was confirmed dead.”
Chief Tracy Meir said: “I would like to extend my condolences to the loved ones of the man who tragically lost his life in this horrific dog attack. We continue to support them at this incredibly difficult time.
“Detectives are continuing to investigate and we have taken statements, viewed CCTV and carried out house-to-house inquiries in the local area, but we are keen to speak to anyone with information.”
