Parovi began his golf career in 1983, winning his first tournament. He also competed in major tournaments in 1984 and 1996, finishing second. Fred was the first American player to be ranked number one in the Official World Golf Ranking in 1992.

He held the first position for only 16 weeks before moving to the second position and being declared Mr. Skins because he was the best player and won five games for the Skins. Pairs was named king of the season after winning the PGA Championship at Shoal Creek Golf Club.
