A troubled man is on a quest to find out if he needs to improve his roommate’s etiquette or if it’s game over for their living situation.
A man asked on Reddit’s “Am I A——” forum if he was wrong to play video games after midnight while his roommate was sleeping.
“I work the evening shift and I go home at 12am,” the player began, before describing the sounds he makes with his keyboard and voice while wearing Sony noise-canceling headphones.
“I have a mechanical keyboard and I play quietly and talk to my friends during the night,” he continued. “My roommate lives in a separate room. … She sleeps very poorly and says I make too much noise.”
He then dove deeper into using his mechanical keyboard, which has louder keystrokes compared to those on a membrane keyboard.

Resident says neighbor Karen’s yoga classes have crept onto his lawn, which she calls ‘common nature’: ‘Am I exaggerating?’
“She doesn’t really want me to use my keyboard even though I bought o rings for her (it’s a sound dampener) and I put a blanket on the wall facing her room,” he added. “She also doesn’t want me to talk at all during the night.”
To his roommate’s concerns, he replied, “That’s not my problem,” which, he noted, “made her very upset.”
“I ended up telling her that it’s reasonable to want me to be quiet at night, but I’m not going to be quiet, we both pay rent and we both have rights,” the player said. “She said not to be silent. I told her that it wasn’t my problem at the moment and she got really upset. I don’t know what he plans to do now. AITA [Am I the A——]?”

Pregnant woman sells her tickets to Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour for $4,000 — and now her sister-in-law won’t talk to her
Fellow Redditors were quick to react to his situation, with most writing, “YTA [You’re the A——],” and giving his reasoning.
“A mechanical keyboard? Really? It’s annoying even when you’re not trying to sleep. YTA,” one person commented.
Another reader wrote: “YTA. I’m also a poor sleeper and have been close to psychosis in the past due to being woken and kept awake multiple times during the night by things like our pets making noise in the house or neighbors playing loud music. It’s torture.”
“YTA,” said a third Redditor. “Let’s face it, you’re a narcissist looking for enough good men to take your side so you can take it out on her and make her believe she’s the problem. She didn’t. you are.”
