Mandy Moore Stars Alongside Edgar Ramírez's 'Smoke and Mirrors' Medical Pro in Dr. Death Paolo Season 2 — First Look

The once-famous thoracic surgeon, played by Edgar Ramírez in the second season of The Peacock, fell out of favor after his innovative surgeries turned out to be bogus — and fatal.

A whole new story is ready to unfold Dr. death season 2

The first teaser for the Edgar Ramírez and Mandy Moore-led season has arrived, offering a look at terrifying medical professional Paolo Macchiarini. “He is a professor, researcher and thoracic surgeon, Dr. Paolo Macchiarini,” says a voice in the trailer.

Based on the anthology title alone, viewers can assume that this doctor is not as respected as he is believed to be. “The work I do, it’s all smoke and mirrors,” says a voice from the film.

Moore’s character, Benita Alexander, asks the question: “I need to know the truth. What did you do Paolo? What did you do to them?”

Based on the true story of Macchiarini — once famous for stem cell research — Dr. death season 2 will go through his progress and shortcomings in medicine.

In the past decade, Macchiarini has become famous for using synthetic tracheas in patients using their own cells — meaning the transplant would not need to maintain immunosuppressive drugs. But what Macchiarini glossed over were the life-changing complications after the surgeries that proved the concept was just a pipe dream and not at all successful for his patients. In the spirit of the show’s title, some of Macchiarini’s patients actually died from the operations.
