Mansi Joshi is an Indian cricketer who plays as a bowler for the Indian women’s national cricket team. She represents Haryana in domestic cricket. In 2023, she signed with Gujarat Giants for the inaugural season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL).

Mansi Joshi was born on Wednesday, August 18, 1993 in Tehri, Uttarakhand (29 years old; as of 2022). She spent her childhood at her maternal grandmother’s house in Tehri. She has been passionate about cricket since she was 9 years old and grew up playing the game with her neighborhood friends. When she was in the third grade, her mother was posted to Uttarakhand in Uttarakhand and she moved there. When Mansi was in sixth grade, she and her mother moved to Ruki, Punjab. There, one of her acquaintances recognized her passion for the sport and suggested she enroll at St. Xavier’s College in Rookee. At that time, Indian cricketer Rishabh Pant was also training at the same academy. Her cricket career began at the age of 16, when she participated in the Haryana Cricket Association trials and was selected for the state’s U-19 team. That same year, she also played for the state senior team. She was in class 10 at that time. Her class 10 exams clashed with the Haryana cricket tournament; hence, she dropped out of school. Therefore, she pursued her 10th and 12th grade courses from a private institution. Talking about the beginning of her cricketing journey in an interview, she said:
When I was nine years old, I remember playing cricket with my colonial friends and cousins. That’s when I started taking an interest in cricket. My initial days were difficult and challenging due to lack of cricket knowledge and practice. I used to play in the Haryana Cricket Association where I was selected in the under-19 senior women’s state team. This is my first attempt. I never looked back from there and soon started my professional cricket training and practice. “
One day, she visited friends in Dehradun for a practice match, where she met Virendra Singh Rautela of St. Joseph’s Cricket Academy. Rautela suggested Mansi move to Dehradun for better training. Thereafter, her mother transferred her work to Uttarkashi. Meanwhile, Mansi started living with her aunt in Dehradun and was trained by coach Rautela at St. Joseph’s Cricket Academy. She lived with her aunt for two years. After the 2017 Women’s Cricket World Cup, her mother quit her job and moved to Dehradun to live with Mansi, while her father continued to work in Uttarkashi.

At the age of 16, she made her debut in domestic cricket at the U19 level, representing Haryana. Apart from this, she also represented the North Zone Women’s Cricket Team (2010/11–2016/17) and the India Blue Team (2013/14–2018/19). In the 2022 Women’s T20 Challenge, she played for IPL Supernovas, who defeated IPL Velocity by 4 points in the final.
International
During the tour of India in November 2016, she was selected for the T20I part of the Indian team in a series of three T20Is against the West Indies. She was not selected for any of the team’s games in the series. She made her T20 debut on 26 November 2016 against the Bangladesh women’s team during the Women’s Asia Cup 2020 at the Asian Institute of Technology Stadium in Bangkok. In her first T20I, she took 1/8 and won the Man of the Match award in the second match against Thailand, where she took 2/8 Results; There is no T20I status for this game. She made her debut on 10 February 2017 in a 2017 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup qualifier against Ireland at P Sara Oval, Colombo. In the match against Thailand, she scored a clean knockout of Sornnarin Tippoch on the 8th and was awarded the title of Player of the Match. February 2017.

She was part of the Mithali Raj-led India team that finished as runners-up at the 2017 Women’s World Cup; England won by nine points. Mansi took two wickets against arch-rivals Pakistan in the World Cup. After the 2017 ICC Women’s World Cup, she suffered a knee injury and was out for more than a year. Thereafter, she was named as part of the ODI squad for the tour of Sri Lanka. In October 2018, she was selected in the Indian team for the 2018 ICC Women’s World Twenty20 held in the West Indies. Mansi Joshi takes a stunning catch to bowl Nundumiso Nondumiso Shangase. Interestingly, the ball hit bowler Ekta Bisht first and then the ball went to mid-on and Josh did a great job of grabbing it. Although Bisht missed the chance to catch and bowl the ball, Joshi ensured that Bisht got the wicket honors.

- Her jersey number in the Indian women’s football team is #10. Receiving the number 10 jersey was one of the highest moments of her life as she grew up idolizing the famous Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, who also wore the jersey number 10 in India. Talking about the same in an interview, she said,
I have admired him since I was a child. Somehow I feel like his blessing is always with me. It’s because of him that I got the number 10 jersey. “
- However, it was Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar who inspired Joshi to bowl. She would also try to emulate Akhtar when she played with the neighborhood boys. Seeing her pace, her friends often called her “Akhtani”. In an interview, she recalled watching Akhtar on television as a child and said:
When I was a kid, I used to watch cricket matches and I was always glued to the screen when I was watching Shoaib Akhtar bowling. I was fascinated by the way he built his run-up and the way he went from running a length to bowling. Watching him play with pure speed gives me the motivation to play like him. “
