Her father, Dr. Mitra Basu Chichlal, is a senior scientist at the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO). His qualifications include MBBS, MD, FAM, MBA in Healthcare. Her mother, Dr. Neelam Chichlal, is an associate professor and head of the neurochemistry department at the Institute of Human Behavior and Allied Sciences (IHBAS). She has two siblings, her elder sister, Dewangana Chichlal, is a lawyer, and her younger brother, Dalmitra Chichlal, is an entrepreneur.

In 2014, she represented India in a cultural exchange program in Japan. On June 25, 2017, she participated in the Miss India 2017 beauty pageant and represented Haryana. In the competition, she also won the title of Miss Photogenic in the sub-competition.

On November 18, 2017, she won the 54th Miss World 2017 competition and was crowned by Miss World 2016, Stephanie Del Valle of Puerto Rico.

Manushi dropped out of medical school to pursue a career in modeling and acting. When asked about her decision, she said,
After winning the Miss World pageant, I worked really hard to get into medical school. I had always wanted to be a doctor, and I wanted to use the experience I had gained as Miss World and combine it with my medical degree. But life had other plans. I never thought of pursuing show business as a career.”
Miss World 2017
As Miss World 2017, Manushi Chhillar returned to India on November 26, where she has been doing a lot of work related to charity and public welfare. Chhillar’s first press conference as Miss World was held at the St. Regis Hotel in Mumbai. In December 2017, the Haryana government appointed her as the brand ambassador for the ‘Anemia Free Haryana’ project.

Her project, Project Shakti, received a grant of Rs. 18 crore from the government to distribute free sanitary pads to all girls in government schools in Haryana. Under this project, she visited 20 villages and helped around 5,000 women. She also educated women about HIV/AIDS. She participated in SET India’s Evening with Padman to talk about her menstrual hygiene project with Akshay Kumar’s film Pad Man.

In February 2018, she embarked on a “Beauty with a Purpose” tour with other Miss World winners to Hyderabad and Kolkata to promote awareness of feminine hygiene. They visited an NGO in Kolkata and acquired skills to produce affordable sanitary pads and work to ensure that sanitary pads are available in rural areas. During the 42-day trip to India, she visited Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai and Delhi, and then went to Hong Kong and China, extending the journey to Indonesia.

In Indonesia, she headed a local project and was crowned Miss Indonesia 2018. Also, in 2018, she contributed to a charity event in the British Virgin Islands, attended a dinner and auction, and also attended the Beauty with a Purpose charity awards ceremony. In the United States, she participated in a 16-hour television show and participated in the celebration of International Women’s Day. She spoke at the South Asian Empowerment Awards and returned to India to speak at the Economic Times Women’s Forum 2018. In Brazil, she worked to fight leprosy and educate people, and interacted with children from Down Syndrome organizations. Her efforts were recognized by the Brazilian Parliament. She then traveled to the Philippines in May 2018 to compete and went to New Zealand to campaign, volunteering at a charity in Auckland. After judging and selecting the champion of the Femina Miss India 2018 competition, she went to South Africa to continue her menstrual hygiene project. In South Africa, she opened a sanitary napkin unit in Nelson Mandela’s birthplace. She also donated blankets and bicycles to those in need.

In December 2018, Manuhi concluded her stint as Miss World 2017 by crowning the next Miss World, Silvia Vanessa Ponce de León Sánchez.

In May 2018, Manushi walked with many women in Delhi to educate people about the importance of managing menstruation properly. She also helped launch a large bicycle ride in Delhi to celebrate World Bicycle Day. Manushi has worked with UNICEF to educate people about the coronavirus pandemic and stay safe. During the lockdown in India, she launched a campaign asking the government to provide sanitary pads to women workers. In 2021, she joined hands with UN Women to call for an end to violence against women. She also supports a project called “Orange the World” and advocates to stop online harassment of women.
Movie
Chhillar has signed a three-film deal with Yash Raj Films. Her first film is Samrat Prithviraj (2022), in which she plays Sanyogita, the wife of Prithviraj, played by Akshay Kumar. Chhillar says that playing Sanyogita is a big responsibility, as she is a strong character who makes important decisions on her own. The film did not do well at the box office and critics did not like her performance.

In 2023, she acted in the film “A Great Indian Family”. After acting in this film, her acting skills were also criticized. In 2024, she acted in “Operation Valentine’s Day” with Varun Tej. In 2024, she acted in “Bade Miyan Chote Miyan” with Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff, in which she played the role of Misha.

She will co-star with John Abraham in Tehran, directed by Dinesh Vijan (to be released in 2024).
