Maren Morris Returns to Social Media with Post About Facing ‘What’s Necessary’ amid Ryan Hurd Divorce

Maren Morris has returned to social media with an inspirational quote following the news that she has filed for divorce from husband Ryan Hurd.

On Friday, the 33-year-old “Circles Around This Town” singer posted an Instagram Story with an inspirational quote that seemed to allude to embracing an uncertain future.

The quote contains the partially crossed out text “It will be alright”, before the words “it just will be, and when it is, you will face what it takes”.

She then posted a selfie wearing a baseball cap with the lyrics “There was a night when the wind was so cold” from Céline Dion’s hit “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now,” and later added it to an Instagram carousel along with the caption, “Welcome to The End where you can come and lose some friends…”

The last slide Morris included was a TikTok clip of her posing on the red carpet at the Los Angeles premiere of friend Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour last week, overlaid with an audio clip from the star’s song “Vigilante S—” where Swift sings, “I don’t dress for women / I don’t dress for men / lately I dress for revenge.”

Morris, who recently released a two-song project the bridgefiled for divorce from Hurd, 36, on Oct. 2 after five years of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences, according to documents obtained by PEOPLE.

The documents said the couple – who have a three-and-a-half-year-old son, Hayes Andrew – had been separated since the filing date.

The order for the parenting seminar — a requirement for all Davidson County divorce cases involving children — was ordered by a judge on July 25, and indicated that Morris and Hurd would have 60 days from the date of the appeal to complete the seminar. Documents show Morris successfully completed a four-hour parenting skills seminar on Oct. 14.

The former couple first met in 2013 while writing songs (the result was Tim McGraw’s “Last Turn Home”), and married in March 2018 after nearly three years of dating.

“We’d only been friends for a few years, but there was always that writing chemistry in the room, and eventually the moment for it was undeniable. We had such a foundation built by writing so many songs over the years that we were like, ‘Why are we avoiding this?’” Morris told PEOPLE in 2017.

Over the years, the pair continued to collaborate, and in 2021 they released their first duet, “Chasing After You.” The song was a country hit and was nominated for Best Country Duo or Group Performance at the Grammys.

Just weeks before news of the split broke, Morris announced she was leaving country music after feeling “very, very distant” from the industry and its politics, prompting Hurd to post a supportive Instagram post.

“She deserves to be celebrated, not just tolerated,” Hurd wrote at the time. “I’m sick of watching my wife get the s— out of her by the internet. I’m sick of every talking head having some stupid opinion about what she says. It’s the same every time, why are you surprised when she calls out something racist or homophobic, I’m sick of people getting rewarded for it.”

“She deserves some sunshine for the burden she has carried for every artist and fan who feels the same way. I can’t wait for that first tour and to see all the smiling and beautiful people who needed these songs and who need HER too. I can’t wait to make music that follows suit road, whatever that is,” he continued. “I love you, MM. Keep it up.”

In April, the “I Can’t Love You Anymore” singer celebrated her 33rd birthday with a sweet tribute to Hurd.

“This pic is from the weekend we got engaged,” he captioned two photos on his Instagram Story, one of him kissing Morris on stage in 2017. “We don’t take as many photos together these days, but that’s okay. Spent the day in NYC with my strength celebrating his birthday. I love you, MM. Happy birthday 🎂”

In another post, he shared a photo of Morris lounging in bed. “Things got crazy. We ate cake. I love growing old with you,” he raved.
