Mariah Carey Says Son Roc Taught Her How to Play Fortnite and Reveals Future of Her Christmas Shows (Exclusive)

It’s time to unfreeze the Christmas Queen — on Fortnite.

After emerging from a block of ice that appeared on the Island a few days ago, Mariah Carey will bring her holiday spirit — and holiday favorite “All I Want for Christmas Is You” — to Winterfest through Jan. 7.

“My Fortnite character is actually me with different clothes, skins,” the 55-year-old “We Belong Together” artist tells PEOPLE. “I’m so excited about this. It’s really sweet.”

Fans will be able to celebrate the holidays with “really cute” new outfits in the Shop, like Carey’s Santa-inspired outfit Merry Christmas album cover and glamorous gold track inspired Emancipation Mimi album cover.

According to the singing icon, her interest in Fortnite stems from her 13-year-old son Moroccan, aka “Roc,” who she shares with ex-husband Nick Cannon.

“For the longest time, I watched my son play Fortnite, and then he taught me to play,” says Carey. “It was a sweet little excursion as we figured out if we could do this [Fortnite collaboration] or not.”

After wrapping up her Christmas tour on Dec. 17 in Brooklyn, where she signed Rihanna’s bosom, the “Heartbreaker” singer also opened up to PEOPLE about the future of her holiday shows.

“I really love doing it, I just have to schedule it a little differently because I got sick this year just from being out too long,” says Carey, who was forced to cancel three shows after coming down with the flu.

Carey, of course, added that her Christmas shows are something she’ll probably “always do.”
