Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos have been married for nearly three decades — and the latter told us why their romance works.
Consuelos, 52, and Ripa, 53, tied the knot at Las Vegas’ Bell Chapel on May 1, 1996. The couple – who have sons Michael, 26, Joaquin, 21, and daughter Lola, 22 – will celebrate their 28th wedding anniversary this year .
Asked to share tips for finding long-term love, Consuelos told PEOPLE at the NYC premiere for Max’s Girls on the bus“Find someone you can dream with.”

Consuelos teased that he “has a few years” before he has to plan their “big” thirtieth anniversary (“I’ve got to think of something big”), but this year he’s “just going to relax.”
First, however, will be Consuelos’ 54th birthday on March 30. And that, he said, will be marked by relaxation. “I don’t do anything quietly,” the actor told PEOPLE.
“We’ve been on the run for the last six or seven weeks,” he said. “I can’t wait to relax, sleep in my bed for a while and enjoy it.”

Ripa and Consuelos have already marked the milestone of their budding relationship by returning to the wedding venue. The couple recreated their wedding photos in February, and Ripa later told PEOPLE, “It was really romantic though. It was really sweet. We cherish those memories to this day. It’s been 28 years and we can still remember every minute of it.” wedding.”

Girls on the bus is a political series that shows female journalists on their way to cover the candidates in the presidential elections. Consuelos’ character is an actor turned politician.
“When I first got the role, [I was told that] he’s an action star who polls his fans on Twitter to see if he has a chance to do something good,” Consuelos explained of his act. “And it came back overwhelmingly positive. So he said, ‘Why not do it? I can do this, I do everything else.’ And it’s pretty amazing that he actually thinks he has the ability to do that – but I think anything is possible in this world.”
