Mark Hunt was born in South Auckland, New Zealand to a large Samoan family. Mark was a troubled child who served two prison sentences for violence. Masters himself spotted him during an altercation outside an Auckland nightclub; what impressed Sam Masters was his ability to knock people out because he knocked out a lot of people during that feud. He invited Hunt to his gym for formal training, and a week later won a Muay Thai Kickboxing match by knockout, launching Hunt’s career.

Mark started his kickboxing career in February 2000. Initially, he was used to promoting up-and-coming fighters from various promoters. He entered his K-1 tournament as an overwhelming underdog. He won the title by defeating Aumitagi, also known as “The Coconut Crusher,” in the quarterfinals.
In addition, he defeated Rony Sefo in the semi-finals and Phil Fagan in the final. Mark has competed in many other kickboxing titles, most recently on April 13, 2018 in Yokohama, Japan, where he was nominated as a challenger and competed for the K-1 Super Heavyweight Championship.
