The death penalty appeal of a Bonita Springs man convicted in 2019 of paying two people to kill his wife was denied Thursday.
The Florida Supreme Court on Thursday upheld the first-degree murder, capital punishment and conspiracy to commit murder convictions of Mark Sievers.
Mark Sievers, 54, was found guilty of planning the murder of his wife Teresa Sievers, a 46-year-old doctor from southwest Florida, more than seven years ago.
The court ruled that none of Sievers’ multiple appeals against his convictions and maximum sentence had merit. One of Sievers’ concerns about evidence of victim impact during the sentencing phase.
The data shows that the court found no errors in accepting victim impact evidence in the case. Victim impact evidence is admissible at trial in Florida.
The court ruled that in Sievers’ case, live testimony from Teresa Sievers’ mother and a short video of Teresa Sievers were relevant in portraying the loss suffered by Teresa Sievers’ family and neighbors.
