Martha Stewart’s Fellow Inmates and Chefs Talk About Her Rise, Fall and Comeback in New CNN Miniseries (Exclusive)

After a decade in the spotlight, fans will see Martha Stewart in a way they’ve never seen before.

On January 28, a new CNN miniseries The Many Lives of Martha Stewart will explore all stages of a lifestyle expert’s life, from highs to lows, and PEOPLE has an exclusive first look at the full teaser (below).

In four one-hour episodes, the special will chronicle the cookbook author’s “explosive rise to success, her stunning fall from grace and her momentous return to the spotlight” through archival footage and interviews, according to the release. Viewers will hear from Stewart’s former employees, ex-prisoners, fellow chefs and loved ones along with never-before-seen footage of the longtime celebrity chef.

Stewart graduated from Columbia University’s Barnard College.

The former model’s career began when she was a young stockbroker on Wall Street in the 1960s.

After breaking barriers as a woman in the financial industry, Stewart, 82, turned to becoming a restaurateur in Connecticut and her “career is starting to take off like a rocket,” one insider confirms in a teaser for the CNN series.

Her success took shape when she became a television personality and billionaire, assuming her role as “the original influencer,” says another interviewee in the show’s credits. “There is no media personality, business woman, celebrity chef like her,” added another in the trailer. Despite her success, her career took a hit 20 years ago.

Stewart served five months in prison in 2004 for conspiring with her Merrill Lynch stockbroker to defraud authorities investigating her December 2001 stock sale. But, “the comeback started before she even left,” says another interviewee in CNN’s announcement.

The four-part series will air over two weekends with two episodes premiering on January 28th and the remaining half on February 4th.

“After an 8 hour plane ride from Westchester to Palm Beach – horrible by the way – we went to bed early and put on my beautiful @sabbiarosa nightgown (sheets with robe),” she captioned the post. “I didn’t look too bad when I got up, at least not as bad as when I went to bed – that must be the $$$$$outfit!!”

Fans love the chef’s thirst traps. Stewart garnered significant attention for her July 2020 Instagram post — so much so that she revealed it during an April 2021 appearance. The Ellen DeGeneres Show that she received “so many offers and so many offers” in the weeks after the video went viral.
