Audiences will finally witness the birth of one of hip-hop’s most iconic groups Wu-Tang: Legend of America After a nearly two-year wait, the second season will premiere on Hulu on September 8. With the return of the show, fans will have a chance to meet the remaining members of the Wu-Tang faction that have not been introduced before, including Inspectah Deck (Uyoata Udi, Warden). Callender, Martinez and Udi interviewed rant screen about how they approached the supergroup from the outside in the new season.
Screen Rant: Uyoata, your first real role as the Inspector Deck. Can you talk about what that experience was like for you?
Uyoata Udi: It’s an honor to take on this role. I think the most exciting thing is to realize in this moment what it’s like to be very real with someone who’s been on this earth, and then find something that fits the nature of this character. I think that kept me excited throughout the show and motivated me to keep going deeper.
As an older brother, Julian is in a difficult situation in Shenzhou. How does he see his role in the family?
Julian Elijah Martinez: Yeah, I think Divine in season one was the breadwinner; he’s the patriarch and he’s a male character. It’s also funny because he’s a young man so he has to take on a difficult task on his own.
In season two, he changes a bit. Suddenly, we see Divine as our first companion, supporter, and champion. He is a gladiator, fighting for the king. It’s a really interesting place, and I think what I like about this season is that the conflict between me and Bobby isn’t our character in this situation—I think the easiest thing to do is make up the story. story.
We had other conflicts instead, but Divine immediately assumed her role without hesitation. I think seeing two blacks do it, and seeing two blacks as collaborators, is a very powerful story.
Marcus Ball is another behind-the-scenes player in life. What was it like to bring him to the top?
Marcus Callender: Oh, I’m so excited. I’m glad people are learning about Power Play’s role in Wu-Tang, because RZA invited him to join for a reason. He doesn’t rap, he doesn’t beat – he doesn’t do anything. But there’s a reason RZA feels he’s an important part of Wu. You will all find out in part two.
Speaking of RZA, how does it feel to have him directly oversee the story he tells?
Marcus Callender: For me, every time he’s on set, I just think, “Yo, how does it feel to watch your story unfold now?” It is very great.
Uyoata, have you talked to him and got a response?
Uyoata Udi: Yes, we talked about that. When I first met him, he told me, “I didn’t choose you for this role. I chose you in my heart, but [it was] Check out the deck. I respect him, he chose you personally. ‘ I was like, ‘Wow. “I think it was a surreal and honorable moment.
But seeing RZA on set, two things happened. Because what you see is him in his element and his moments of success, uplift, and progress. But you are also watching and reading the story and rediscovering his past and the struggles he went through. It really motivates in a fun way.
Julian, you talked about Divine becoming more proactive and more of a partner. How do you feel when you find inspiration outside of the script? Do you listen to music, or do you talk more about it?
Julian Elijah Martinez: Yes, I have a YouTube playlist of all the Divine interviews. He only gives a small portion, but I have this YouTube playlist – basically all I do is put it on my left ear and listen for hours on end. The whole time we started filming — maybe a month before we started filming, and then during filming. For about seven months, all I heard was the divine voice in my ear.

Julian Elijah Martinez: I tried. I was a terrible student in high school, so I guess at 30, I’ll make up for it.
