“As much as we love what we do, the kids are the number one priority right now,” Maryse, 41, tells PEOPLE. “That’s why we have to give them priority in every single aspect. …Especially as a woman, it is difficult with two children. I can’t travel by road [I used to] … And then I don’t want to.”

“I want to be with my children. And that’s what makes me happy,” he adds. “I want to go to bed at night and know that I’m in the same house as my children, so as much as I love work – I miss it – I choose my children.”

Mike, who was also at the event, said becoming a father to daughters Monroe Sky, 6, and Madison Jade, 5, has changed his perspective.

“I love my kids to death. And I’m trying to find a healthy balance of fulfilling our dreams — but also because we want to show our kids if you have a dream, follow it and do what you have to,” says the TV personality, 44. “But you also have to be that parent and that dad.”

“To them, I’m not Miz, I’m dad,” he continues. “And dad gets nothing. It’s funny, though, when people come up to me and ask for a picture, they’ll say, ‘Is that because you’re the Miz?’ They are five and six and they are already burning me.”

Maryse previously spoke to PEOPLE about parenting, noting that she and Mike are perfectly suited to entertain children because of their experience working in crowds.

“We are actually clowns. It’s our job,” she joked to PEOPLE in 2020. “We’re just totally dedicated to them.”

During a separate interview that same year, she revealed to PEOPLE that “mommy guilt” is a very real phenomenon — though she didn’t know how much she’d feel it until she had kids.

“I’m with them all day, every day, but sometimes I feel like it’s never enough,” she said. “Mother guilt is really something that a lot of moms don’t talk about. You leave the house for an hour and you feel guilty about it.”

“It’s something I wasn’t aware of before I was pregnant,” she explained. “I didn’t know women felt this way, and it’s crazy because a lot of my girlfriends tell me, ‘I feel the same way.’ Basically, I take care of my children as best I can, I love them as much as I can, I give them everything I can [still] feel that way. Honestly, it’s very challenging.”

In addition to their wrestling careers, the couple has given fans an even bigger window into their lives through the fan-favorite reality show Miz & Mrs. which premiered on USA Network in 2018 and ran for three seasons.
