Masterchef star signs up for I’m A Celeb despite slamming show as ‘puerile’ and ‘dumb’

MASTERCHEF star Grace Dent will take part in I’m A Celeb this year — despite criticizing the ITV show.

The TV food critic, 50, branded the series “a childish enterprise of starvation, televised prison and animal cruelty, punctuated by adverts for £1 Icelandic curry”.

She admitted she was uncomfortable watching the award-winning show, saying in 2012: “I pull the blinds tight before I settle down to watch I’m A Celebrity, fearing that the tune alone is devaluing my assets.”

Grace has signed a deal rumored to be worth up to £100,000 to join fellow celebs and presenters Ant and Dec Down Under in a move which will boost her television career.

An insider said: “Masterchef fans know Grace for her tired disparagement of the contestants’ food and disdain for anything less than stellar cooking.

“But she’ll eat humble pie in the jungle, subsist on rice and beans, and take part in the Bushtucker trials.”

Grace will appear alongside ex-politician Nigel Farage, 59, jockey Frankie Dettori, 52, This Morning’s Josie Gibson, 38, former EastEnder Danielle Harold, 31, First Dates star Fred Sirieix, 51, Made’s Sam Thompson In Chelsea (31) and JLS singer Marvin Humes, 38.

Farage will reportedly receive £1m for his appearance in the 23rd series, which is due to start later this month.

An ITV spokesman said: “All names suggested for I’m A Celebrity are speculation.”
