Matante Alex Controversy continues as people continue to question the alleged abuse of the well-known Drag Queen. Matante Alex’s real name is Alexandre Gemma. She is a famous Montreal drag queen. She is known for her work at the legendary Cabaret Mado and for previously auditioning for La Voix.
Her reputation, however, was tarnished by public allegations of aggression and harassment, which had serious consequences for the drag scene in Quebec. Several people accused Matante Alex of physical assault and transphobia, resulting in a contentious scenario. Alex took legal action in response to these allegations, filing a lawsuit against three people, including two additional drag queens named Denim Pussy and Kiara. Matante Alex believes he is the victim of a “smear campaign” by Denim Pussy and Kiara. These allegations and counter-accusations have sparked heated debates and discussions among members of the local drag scene.
Matante Alex Controversy: Abuse and Drama
In November, several serious issues arose regarding Matante Alex, with several people coming forward to tell their stories. Denim Pussy, a drag queen from Montreal, was the first to reveal the details of her relationship with Matante Alex from November 2019 to December 2020. In the post, Denim accused Alex of being transphobic towards her and one of her trans housemates while they were living together on Twitter and Instagram. She also claimed that she was the victim of physical assault by Alexandre Gemme (real name Matante Alex).
Kiara, another drag queen who dated Alexandre Gemme from May to December 2018, was quick to reveal her allegations against Matanta Alex. She accused Matante Alex in her article of manipulation, abuse and psychological abuse during their relationship in 2020. Kiara discussed the effects of the alleged abuse on her mental health and regretted not intervening when she witnessed Denim’s physical attack.
What are the charges against Matanta Alex?
Matante Alex is a lovely performer from French Canada who participated in the first season of Queen of the Universe. Transphobic behaviour, physical aggression, manipulation, abuse and psychological harassment were among the allegations against Matanta Alex. Following these revelations, Daphnée Schryve, a non-binary ARTSY artist, accused Gemme on her Instagram account of being a transphobic abuser and bully.
Daphnée Schryve demanded that Matante Alex be removed from Queens of the Universe. As a result, Gemme filed a defamation suit against three people, including Denim Pussy and Kiara. After unsuccessfully trying to arrange a meeting with Denim Pussy and Kiara, Alex denies all accusations and launches defamation lawsuits. Despite this, according to defense lawyer Maryse Lapointe in Métro, the Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected his request for a temporary measure. Alexandre Gemme is suing for $60,000 in moral, material and punitive damages, as well as $20,000 in legal and extrajudicial costs.
Following these claims, at least two more people revealed their experiences of abuse with Matante Alex through short-lived Instagram posts. Condemnation quickly spread throughout the LGBTQ+ community, particularly in the drag scene, fueling debate and concern about Matante’s behavior. Despite the ongoing problem, Matante continues to practice his profession. She is currently competing in the singing competition Queen of the Universe, which will be broadcast globally on December 2. Alexa’s involvement in the event, as well as her general image as a drag performer, have certainly been tarnished by the allegations and legal action.
