Matilda De Angelis is an Italian actress and singer, known for starring in the Italian films Veloce come il vento (2016), Youtopia (2018) and L’incredibile storia dell’Isola delle Rose (2020), and the TV series The Undoing (2020).

Matilda De Angelis was born on Monday, September 11, 1995 (age 25 in 2020) in Bologna, Italy. Her star sign is Virgo. She grew up in the rural suburbs of Bologna and attended Enrico Fermi Polytechnic. In an interview, while sharing her childhood memories, she said,
I grew up in the middle of nowhere. Farms, animals, that kind of thing. You’d think you’d spend your whole life there. I always wanted to find more for myself.”
She loved music from a young age and started playing guitar at the age of 11. Later, she also learned to play the violin and is also very good at piano. Although she never took acting lessons, she was offered the lead role in the film “The Wind Rises” (2016) when a casting director saw some of her photos on Facebook. Apparently, the casting director was not looking for an established actress, but a woman who could speak the dialect of the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy. In an interview, she said:
I wasn’t trained as an actor. I never went to acting school. I just got into acting in a very weird and random way. So when I saw my first movie come out, I think I realized I wanted to be an actor, and I was so happy and excited.”
After landing a role in the film The Wind Rises (2016), she enrolled in a workshop with acting coach Doris Hicks.

Matilda de Angelis’ mother, Tania Troilo, works for an insurance company, while her father, Lorenzo de Angelis, is a graphic designer. Her brother, Tobia de Angelis, is an oboe player, budding chef, short story writer and actor who played Dennis, the brother of Matilda’s character, in the Italian TV series Tutto può succedere (2015).

The band, consisting of Matilda and seven other young musicians from Bologna, embarked on a musical journey. When I was sixteen, I joined a band, a famous band from my hometown, Rumba de Bodas, and we traveled around Europe in a yellow van. It was one of the best experiences of my life, and I was in that band for five years.”

Matilda de Angelis made her screen debut in 2016, playing the lead role of Giulia de Martino in the Italian sports drama Veloce come il vento (Italian Racing). In the film, Giulia de Martino is a 17-year-old racer who participates in Italian racing, an illegal and dangerous race, to pay off her debts. Matilda was nominated for Best Actress at the David Award (2017), the Italian Academy Award, for her role as Giulia de Martino. The film also features the song “Seventeen”, which Matilda wrote and sang. The song became a huge hit and was nominated for Best Original Song at the David Award (2017).
In 2017, she played the supporting role of Stella in the Italian drama film A Family. In the film, Stella is a homeless girl who sleeps on rooftops or in dumpsters. Things change when Stella meets a father-like figure who suggests that she become a surrogate mother for a wealthy couple who are unable to have children.
She rose to fame with the 2018 Italian drama Youtopia, in which she played the role of Matilde, a young girl who sells her virginity online to save her family from losing their house.
Then in the same year, she played the role of Soledad Agramante, a failed actress involved in a fake robbery, in the Italian comedy film Una Vita Spericolata.

In 2020, she made her digital debut in Netflix’s Italian comedy-drama, The Incredible Story of the Island of Roses, playing Gabriella, a lawyer specializing in international law and the love interest of Georgio Rosa. Matilda was nominated for the David di Donatello Award (2021) for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Gabriella. The Incredible Story of the Island of Roses is based on the true story of Giorgio Rosa, an ambitious engineer who came into conflict with the government after building a steel island off the coast of Rimini in northern Italy in the 60s.

In 2015, she made her debut in the Italian TV series Tutto può succedere as Ambra Scalvino, the eldest daughter of Sara Ferrero and a young rebel who secretly dreams of becoming a singer and is constantly in conflict with her mother.
In 2020, she shot to fame with the American psychological thriller drama Undoing, in which she portrayed the character of Elena Alves, a young, sexy and provocative woman whose son attends an elite school on scholarship and who makes no secret of her desire to be part of the upper class.
She plays the role of Caterina da Cremona in the historical drama Leonardo (2021). The play is set in 1506, when the legendary Renaissance painter Leonardo da Vinci is accused of murdering his friend and muse Caterina da Cremona.
