Matt Barnes Shares Update on Son Isaiah After He Was 'Hit by a Car' and Underwent Appendix Surgery

Former NBA player Matt Barnes shares an update on his son Isaiah after he was hospitalized for appendectomy.

On Sunday, August 25, the retired striker, 44, shared a post on his Instagram revealing that his high school student son had had a “tough week.”

“My boys had a rough week,” Barnes wrote in the caption. “I got hit by a car while jogging on Wednesday 🤦🏽‍♂️ had severe stomach pains on Friday, tried to play in the Mamba Invitational” — an elite high school basketball tournament named after the late star Kobe Bryant.

“He couldn’t sleep all Friday night, he decided to FINALLY tell his mom and I yesterday when he couldn’t move,” Barnes continued. “I took him to the ER and he had to have an emergency appendectomy.”

“The doctor said it was the biggest appendix that didn’t burst 🙏🏽” he had ever seen, he concluded the post alongside a photo of his son in a hospital bed. “I appreciate the love and support of family and friends!! Let’s go home ❤️.”

Isaiah’s mother and Matt’s ex-wife, Gloria Govan, also posted several updates on her Instagram stories. She said Saturday that while the teenager’s twin brother, Carter, was playing in a basketball tournament, Isaiah was “waiting for surgery.”

“It’s less… somehow,” the Basketball Women LA alum, 39, wrote. “Appendicitis, but still!”

Isaiah — who plays basketball at Crespi Carmelite High School in California, according to Cronkite News — shared some health updates himself.

The teenager took a photo from his hospital bed on Saturday and posted it on his Instagram stories with the caption: “[About] to fail.” On Sunday, he gave another update, saying, “We made it.”

He also reposted a photo of his father and wrote in an Instagram Stories post, “Been one tough week man.” After Isaiah was discharged, he shared a photo of a car pulling up on the side of the road, presumably preparing to drive him home from the hospital.

“Fired,” Isaiah wrote in the post, adding a praying hand emoji. – Thank you all for your prayers.

After Isaiah’s surgery, Matt also posted a video of the teenager and his twin brother reuniting after the surgery. The siblings could be seen hugging each other as Isaiah returned home from the hospital and Carter looked at his new scar.

“I missed you man,” Carter could be heard telling his twin in the sweet clip.

In addition to the twins, Matt is also the father of a son, Ashton, who he shares with his fiancee, model Anansa Sims. The retired athlete is often candid on social media about his support for his children. Last year, he shared a series of photos celebrating Isaiah and Carter’s eighth grade graduation.

“14 years later and you’re going to high school!! Words can’t describe how proud I am of you two,” the proud dad wrote at the time, sharing a snap of the boys posing with their little brother at graduation. “Continue to move with honor, morality, principles and respect as you navigate this next chapter🙏🏽. I love you two with all my heart.”

Matt played 14 seasons in the NBA, including two seasons with the Lakers, four with the Clippers and just under two with the Kings.
