Matthew McConaughey’s Wife Camila Alves McConaughey Says His ‘Getting High, Laid Back’ Image isn’t Real

Camila Alves McConaughey reveals what her husband Matthew McConaughey is really like.

The model and entrepreneur, 41, says Oscar winner Matthew is nothing like the image some fans once had of him, but more like his mom, Kay McConaughey.

“When we first started dating, it was a picture of Matthew getting high, laid back, shirtless, whatever,” she told Southern Living’s Biscuits and jam podcast. “To which I said, ‘The guy doesn’t even smoke. Where is this vision coming from?’

Camila – who shares three children with Matthew, 53 – went on to describe his true personality.

“He’s actually the opposite and he’s just like his mom,” she said. “She’s very organized, very minimalistic, very on time, very prepared, and he gets a lot of those qualities from her.”

Camila also spoke about early clashes with her mother-in-law Kay and how they built a close relationship. “She was doing all those things when I first came into the picture, wasn’t she? She really tested me. I mean, he really tested me,” the model recalled.

Camila said the 91-year-old would call her “Matthew’s ex-girlfriends’ names” and speak to her in broken Spanish, detailing the game-changing confrontation they had during a trip to Istanbul.

“About the third day, I was taking her to her room, and she got into this whole other thing that’s not mine to share, and she started crying, and I said, ‘Oh my God!’ and I feel so sorry,” Camila continued. “And as I was putting her to bed, I looked at her and I was like, ‘Oh my God. She’s full of sh—.”

She then told the podcast that she “brought out my spicy Brazilian, Latin side and I gave it to her” and the pair continued to go “back and forth” until Camila remembered Kay telling her, “Okay. Now you’re in.”

“All she wanted was for me to fight back,” Camila added.

Then she said that now she has a great relationship with her mother-in-law.

“And then from that day, that night forward, we have the most amazing relationship, and I have so much respect for her. She has so much respect for me,” she told the podcast.

Last month, Camila shared on Instagram that she skipped Paris Fashion Week to spend time with Kay and refresh her hair.

She posted a photo of herself applying color to Kaya’s head and wrote: “Not at fashion week … but things are pretty exciting and trendy here! Family duties first … God forbid her hair falls out 🙏🏽🙏🏽 no pressure! !”
