It was a special evening at Mom, I’m a big girl now!when the acclaimed Off-Broadway play — which reunites the original Hair spray stars Marissa Jaret Winokur, Kerry Butler and Laura Bell Bundy — we saw the appearance of another cast member of the original cast of the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical: Matthew Morrison.
The joy actor joined his former co-stars two decades later at New World Stages in New York City on Sunday, December 8. He reprized the role he created, Link Larkin, for “I Can Hear The Bells,” which Winokur’s Tracy Turnblad sings after they first meet.
Butler and Bundy were also part of the fun, recreating the moves of their characters, Penny Pingleton and Amber Von Tussle, respectively.
The entire moment was recorded on video and shared on social networks. “When Matthew Morrison comes to his senses Mom, I’m a big girl now!everyone hears bells!” Winokur wrote before sharing a full video of the moment.
Morrison is one of several stars who have guested in Mom, I’m a big girl now!which Winokur, Butler and Bundy wrote together. In the 90-minute extravaganza, the trio revisit the show that helped launch their careers and the lifelong friendships they’ve made along the way, while also reflecting on the journeys they’ve taken in their careers and personal lives.
It’s a heartwarming walk down memory lane filled with laughs and, as expected, powerful vocal performances from this trio of theatrical talents. In addition to the songs from Hair spraythe ladies sing hits from their many stage roles including bug juice, Wicked, Legal blonde and more.
Since performances began in November, celebrities such as Jonathan Groff, Frankie Grande, Ross Matthews and JJ Niemann have made guest appearances on the show, stepping into the role of Link Larkin for “I Can Hear the Bells.” Andrew Rannells, a former Link Larkin himself, even performed on opening night.

And, as in “I Can Hear the Bells,” he didn’t just hit the notes for Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman’s favorite song; he also recreated Jerry Mitchell’s iconic choreography.
It was also revealed that Morrison, who stood in for Link at the workshops before being moved to the role, was in contact with Winokur, 51, Butler, 53, and Bundy, 43.
“I kissed all three of them!” he said to them; everyone agreed that he was “the best kisser!”
