Earlier this week, the actor was seen dining while looking rather gloomy.
He was walking away from a restaurant called The Apple Pan in Los Angeles, California.
The Friends star was out with a friend as she enjoyed a meal at a restaurant known for its famous burgers.
During the outing, Matthew was in a very casual combination, as he was spotted in a blue T-shirt with a pair of black joggers and white sneakers without laces.
He also wore sunglasses while holding a large cup of soda that appeared to be left over from a meal.
His unkempt hair fluttered in the wind, and his face was covered by a short, salt-and-pepper beard.
TRAGIC DEATH
The first report of Matthew’s death came from TMZ.
Law enforcement sources said the actor was found in a jacuzzi at a home in the Los Angeles area.
First responders were first called to the home for cardiac arrest.
Sources also reported that no drugs were found at the scene and foul play is not suspected at this time.
The outlet revealed that Matthew returned home after a two-hour game of pickleball and sent his assistant on an errand shortly after.
The aide is said to have returned around two hours later, where he found Matthew unresponsive and called 911.
Matthew’s latest Instagram post ominously showed him enjoying a dip in the jacuzzi.
In the caption, the TV star said: “Oh, so warm swirling water makes you feel good? I’m Mattman.”
THE BATTLE IN PROGRESS
In the years leading up to his death, Matthew left fans worried that he had reverted to old habits after looking disheveled.
The sighting came after he finished his whirlwind book tour promoting his memoir.
In Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing: A Candid, Darkly Funny Book, he shared shocking details about his life and past problems.
He spoke about his struggle with addiction – something he has been open about for years.
In 2018, when he was 49, he suffered a gastrointestinal perforation as a result of extreme opiate use.
Matthew was given only a two percent chance of survival after being in a coma for two weeks.
He also revealed that he had lost all of his upper teeth during his battle with addiction.
