Perry is believed to have drowned, but law enforcement sources told TMZ that emergency responders were looking for cardiac arrest.
His cause of death has been delayed, meaning medical examiners need more time to investigate.
The cause of Perry’s death remains unknown, but there were no signs of foul play.
A spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner told People that toxicology reports could take weeks.
They told The Hollywood Reporter, “Deferred means that after an autopsy, the cause of death has not been determined and the medical examiner is requesting additional investigation into the death, including additional studies.”
Perry’s assistant frantically called 911 after the actor went into cardiac arrest.
The audio clip of the dispatch note, which was only 15 seconds long, was about Drowning – Medical Emergency 9.
The first responder says, “Agent 23. Rescue 23. EMS 9 on the radio. In response to a drowning.”
Perry’s body is ready to be released to his family, which means they can begin funeral arrangements.
Officers raided the luxury home and no narcotics were found at the scene.
Authorities found antidepressants, anti-anxiety drugs and a cure for chronic lung disease.
It turns out that Perry was playing the racquet sport of pickleball on the morning of his death.
His partner, a friend, reportedly told radio host Billy Bush that Perry was “tired.”
Bush wrote on Instagram: “I talked to the woman he played with this morning and every morning.
“She’s in shock, adoring Matt … she said he’s been tired today and for the past week.
“A little more than usual. He played for an hour and then went home.”
But Perry said he was in good spirits while playing at Riviera Country Club near his home in the Pacific Palisades region.
Members of the Country Club said Matthew was also working out with a friend.
One said: “Yesterday he had a fight with a guy who is famous around here. I spoke to him, he is quite upset.”
Perry’s family said they were “heartbroken” by Matthew’s death.
They told People: “Matthew brought so much joy to the world, both as an actor and as a friend.
“You all meant so much to him and we appreciate the huge outpouring of love.”
The Friends cast is reportedly “reeling” over Perry’s death.
Perry’s former co-stars Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc and Lisa Kudrow are “devastated” by his death, sources told Page Six.
They are currently preparing to publish a joint statement, the newspaper said.
A source said: “The whole cast are close, they will be devastated as they have been together through the best of times and the worst of times.
“And when Matty was sick, they protected him, they looked after him fiercely.”
Friends star Maggie Wheeler, who played Janice Hosenstein, paid tribute to Perry on Instagram.
She captioned the post: “What a loss. The world will miss you, Matthew Perry.
“The joy you brought to so many in your too short life will live on. I feel so blessed by every creative moment we shared.”
A year before his death, Perry opened up about his previous battles with drugs and alcohol in his memoir Friends, Lovers and the Big Bad Thing.
