Matthew Perry’s Ex-Fiancée Opens Up About Their ‘Profound’ Romance: ‘I Loved Him Deeper Than I Could Comprehend’

Matthew Perry’s ex-fiancée Molly Hurwitz reflects on her “deep” relationship with the late actor following his sudden death.

Following the news that Perry had died on Saturday at the age of 54, the literary manager spoke about their time together in an Instagram post. Adding an image of Perry silhouetted against a European cityscape. Hurwitz, 32, has been open about the impact their relationship has had on her life.

“He would like the world to talk about how talented he is. And he was really very talented,” she began. “As the Friends reunion approached, we rewatched the show together.”

“‘Y—, I was so good!!!'” she recalled him saying. “‘See what I did there???'”

Hurwitz said, “We were rewinding and studying the scenes. Our respect and appreciation of humor is something that binds us together. Being with him as he rediscovered his brilliance was magical.”

Although Perry possessed undeniable talent as an actor, she noted that she “obviously knew the man in a very different way.”

“Even though I loved him more deeply than I could fathom, he was complicated and caused pain like I’ve never felt,” she wrote. “No one in my adult life has had a more profound influence on me than Matthew Langford Perry. I have immense gratitude for that, for everything I’ve learned from our relationship.”

“I would be remiss if I didn’t mention Al Anon [support groups for people who have been impacted by another person’s alcoholism],” Hurwitz continued, referring to Perry’s struggle with substance abuse. “An invaluable resource for those who love someone struggling with this destructive disease.”

In a final message to Perry, she concluded her post, “Matty, I’m relieved you’re at peace. Sincerely, Moll-o-Rama (…fication).”

Matthew Perry Friends Costars Speak Out After His Death: ‘We Are All So Completely Devastated’ (Exclusive)

Perry, best known for his role as Chandler Bing Friendswas found dead at his home in the Los Angeles area on Saturday after an apparent drowning.

“We are heartbroken at the tragic loss of our beloved son and brother,” his family said in an exclusive statement to PEOPLE. “Matthew brought so much joy to the world, both as an actor and as a friend. You all meant so much to him and we appreciate the tremendous outpouring of love.”

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed to PEOPLE that an autopsy has been completed and the results are pending a toxicology report. However, the online record has the status of the actor’s cause of death currently listed as “delayed” as “further investigation is pending.”

Perry and Hurwitz began dating in 2018 and became engaged in November 2020. By June 2021, Perry and Hurwitz announced that they had called off their engagement.

“Sometimes things just don’t work out and this is one of them,” Perry told PEOPLE at the time. “I wish Molly the best.”
