The series that made Matthew Perry famous remembers the actor in a special way.
Each Friends the streaming season on Max now begins with a tribute to the late actor. “In memory of Matthew Perry,” reads the title card, in addition to a headshot of the actor. The years of his birth and death are also listed: 1969–2023.
Perry was found dead on Saturday of apparent drowning at his home in Los Angeles at the age of 54. No drugs were found at the crime scene, nor is foul play suspected, according to the police.

Matthew Perry reflected on the ‘Special’, unbreakable bond with Friends Costars for years after the series
The sitcom’s co-creators Marta Kauffman and David Crane and executive producer Kevin Bright issued a joint statement to PEOPLE on Sunday praising Perry both on and off screen.
“We are shocked and deeply, deeply saddened by the death of our beloved friend Matthew,” they wrote. “It still seems impossible. All we can say is that we feel blessed to have had him as a part of our lives. He was a brilliant talent.”
The statement continued: “We will always cherish the joy, the light, the dazzling intelligence that he brought to every moment — not only in his work, but in life. He was always the funniest person in the room. And more than that, he was the sweetest, giving and selfless heart.”
