For the Tokyo Games, gymnastics teams included four members due to a 2015 decision by the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) to try to reduce the competition gap for smaller countries.

But for the Paris Olympics, teams will again compete with five members — with up to three individual spots available for countries that don’t win the team quota.

Women’s gymnastics teams will compete in four disciplines: vault, floor, beam and floor. Medals will also be awarded in individual and all-around disciplines.

For the Tokyo Olympics, Team USA included Biles, Lee, Chiles and Grace McCallum, along with Carey and MyKayla Skinner competing as individuals.

The U.S. women dominated much of their competition in Japan, winning gold medals in the all-around and floor exercise, as well as a silver medal in the team event.

But their performances were temporarily thrown into disarray when Biles had to pull out of most events at the time, citing her mental health and “twisties” issues.

Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Biles and Lee said they see their trip to Paris, with largely the same team as in Tokyo, as offering a “redemption tour.”
