Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Condemn ‘All Acts of Terrorism’ After Surprise Hamas Attack

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are speaking publicly about the current situation in Israel.

In a statement titled “Heavy Hearts” posted on their Archewell Foundation website on Wednesday, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said they “oppose all acts of terrorism”, following surprise attacks by Hamas militants that killed more than 1,000 civilians last weekend.

“We are supporting our partners and organizations on the front lines in Israel to provide the urgently needed aid and help all the innocent victims of this unconscionable level of human suffering,” Meghan, 42, and Harry, 39, added.

The message comes after Kate Middleton and Prince William and King Charles spoke out separately about the conflict in the Middle East.

Late on Wednesday, a spokesman for William and Kate said in a statement: “The Prince and Princess of Wales are deeply shaken by the devastating events that have taken place over the past few days. The horrors that the Hamas terrorist attack has inflicted on Israel are appalling; they condemn them in their entirety.”

“While Israel exercises its right to self-defense, all Israelis and Palestinians will continue to be haunted by grief, fear and anger in the time to come. Their Royal Highnesses keep all the victims, their families and friends in their hearts and minds.”

He also recalled William’s visit to Israel in 2018, adding: “Those the Prince of Wales met in 2018 overwhelmingly shared a common hope — that of a better future,” he continued. “In the midst of such terrible suffering, the prince and princess continue to share that hope without reservation.”

A spokesman for King Charles added that he is being kept informed of the unfolding tragedy and is doing all he can to support and pray for those who have lost loved ones.

“This is a situation which His Majesty is extremely concerned about and has asked to be actively kept informed,” the spokesman said. “His thoughts and prayers are with all those who are suffering, especially those who have lost loved ones, but also those actively involved as we speak. His Majesty is appalled and condemns the barbaric acts of terrorism in Israel.”

PEOPLE also learned that Charles, 74, spoke by phone with President Herzog of Israel and King Abdullah of Jordan on Wednesday afternoon. Charles welcomed Herzog to Highgrove House during the president’s visit to England in 2021, and King Abdullah attended the coronation in May with his wife, Queen Rania.

Interfaith relations and dialogue between communities at national and international levels were close to Charles’ heart throughout his life and were key themes woven into his coronation in May and associated celebrations. The King is expected to express his solidarity and support for those in Britain whose loved ones were involved in the horrific events.
