Tori Spelling Remembers Luke Perry on What Would Have Been His 57th Birthday: ‘Missing You Always’

It’s been four years since Luke Perry died, but he’s still close to Tori Spelling’s heart.

On Wednesday, the 50-year-old actress marked Perry’s 57th birthday. On her Instagram Story, she shared a picture of the two from years ago, seemingly dancing together.

Along with the sweet photo, Spelling wrote a note in which she remembered Perry as someone who “made you feel like you were the only one” in a crowded room.

“There could be a million people in the room but he always made you feel like you were the only one,” she wrote. “Good people are a rare breed. Unfortunately, I don’t know that many. He was one.”

“Happy birthday,” she added. “I always miss you.”

‘Beverly Hills, 90210’ Cast: Where Are They Now?

Perry died of a stroke at age 52 on March 4, 2019. He and Spelling starred opposite each other in Beverly Hills, 90210which lasted for 10 seasons between 1990 and 2000.

At the time of his death, Spelling reflected on their close friendship in an interview with PEOPLE.

“Luke was one of the kindest and most humble human beings I have ever known,” she said. “I am grateful for the years of friendship we had. He was truly my family, protector and brother. I am very sorry for the loss that everyone is going through.”

Perry played bad boy heartthrob Dylan McKay in the hit series. On the first anniversary of his death, Spelling opened up to PEOPLE about how the role fit with who he was as a person.

“Luke was so charming and very Dylan-esque with all the girls. He would just make you feel so special. and it was real,” she explained. “He was such a genuine person.”

“He called me Camel Lashes. At first I said, ‘You’re calling me a camel,’ upset, and then he said, ‘No, do you know what that means? Camels have the most beautiful long eyelashes,’ ” she continued.

During the 2021 episode of the series Squeals downstairs podcast, Spelling opened up about Perry’s “protective” nature by sharing a story about when he had a fight with a boyfriend who was verbally abusing her.

“I was in a verbally abusive relationship when I was 19,” she said manager Jana Kramer. “Yeah, Luke hated him and was very protective. At my parents’ Christmas party one year, he was there and saw this ex-boyfriend, and they got involved.”

According to Spelling, Perry “tried to hit on” her ex at the party and had to be dragged away by their other co-star, Jason Priestley. While they didn’t speak for “a while” because of the conflict, Spelling told Kramer that she realized “he was a great friend.”

“I was 19, so I was mad at him instead of realizing, in hindsight, that this guy loved me and said, ‘I don’t care. I’m going to go bat for her,'” she said.
