Meghan Markle Returns to Justice for Girls in Vancouver to Hear ‘Personal Struggles for Justice’ from Teens

Meghan Markle has returned to Justice for Girls, a Canadian non-profit organization that aims to help teenage girls living in poverty.

The Duchess of Sussex (42) visited the charity’s Vancouver office on Tuesday. Meghan, who visited the same office in 2020, joined Jessica Lake and Laura Thompson of the Lake Family’s All One Fund and a group of women to discuss the nonprofit’s work.

Justice for Girls was created to advocate for the health and well-being of teenage girls living in poverty, as well as working to provide access to “equality, freedom from violence and colonialism,” according to the organization’s official website.

The nonprofit shared news of Meghan’s appearance in an Instagram post, highlighting key moments from her visit.

“A feminist advocate herself from a young age, the Duchess wanted to speak to two of our teenage interns to discuss their personal struggles for justice,” the organization’s headline reads. “Her genuine and understanding approach made the girls feel heard, supported and inspired.”

Justice for Girls also shared how attendees of Meghan’s visit engaged in conversations about the organization’s “decades of work advocating for girls’ access to education, freedom from violence, indigenous rights and environmental justice” and focused on the importance of “girls” and young women’s leadership.”

“We all felt at ease and I think that was an endorsement from the Duchess,” Justice for Girls co-director Zoe Craig-Sparrow told PEOPLE after Meghan’s first visit. “She said that it is important for her to know the local context around the problems in the communities.”

Justice for Girls co-founder Annabel Webb shares the organisation’s intention, adding: “When we started the organisation, we made sure it was with the young women themselves saying, ‘These are the things we need support for and these are the things that hold us back and push us us to the streets or to prisons or to ever-increasing conditions of poverty and violence.’ ”
