DWTS: Jason Mraz Gets His ‘Swagger Back’ on Taylor Swift Night and Another Pair Shows ‘Tangible’ Chemistry

It was a typical Tuesday night Dancing with the stars we celebrate another music megastar. After paying tribute to the late Whitney Houston’s library in last week’s episode, DWTS held a “Taylor Swift Celebration” on Tuesday.

Taylor Swift says she ‘can’t wait to see’ DWTS Celebrate her music in a surprise appearance on the show

The professionals began by dancing to “Love Story” choreographed by the guest judge — and Eras Tour choreographer! — Mandy Moore. Taylor called Mandy her “friend” and wished her well in the video from Brazil, where she continues her Eras Tour.

Mandy joined judges Derek Hough, Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba to watch the remaining six contestants perform twice: once with her partner and again in a relay dance against another couple, all to the tunes of T. Swift.

Co-hosts Julianne Hough and Alfonso Ribeiro welcomed everyone not to New York, but to the ballroom, guiding the evening through Taylor’s many eras.

Alyson Hannigan and Sasha Farber

As a self-proclaimed Swiftie, actress Alyson Hannigan wanted to nail her Cha Cha on “You Belong with Me.”

“All my children and I love her music and that night when we saw her in concert was special for all three of us,” How I Met Your Mother the star said in her introductory package. “It’s the only artist we can play and not be like, ‘Whoa, change the song.'”

Alyson channeled Taylor to overcome physical challenges — including damaged toenails — during training. “Let’s do it for Swifties!” she declared at the rehearsal.

After the performance, Derek told Alyson that he loved her “charisma and joy.” “You’ve improved so much from Week 1,” he said.

Mandy recognized Taylor’s inspiration in Alyson’s moves. “We are in Fearless Era and girl, you were fearless out there,” said Mandy Alyson.

Bruno, however, thought Alyson was “rushing through it.”

Still, Alyson called the experience “a dream come true.”

“Obviously I should have listened to ‘You Need to Calm Down’ first because I was so excited,” Julianne said. “But, you know, I’m trying.”

Ariana Madix and Pasha Pashkov

Vanderpump Rules‘ Ariana Madix just missed out on a perfect score last week as Carrie Ann gave her a nine. “Carrie Ann is a tough nut to crack and I want her to see that I have what it takes,” Ariana said in her introductory package.

The reality star said she admires Taylor because “when she performs, she commands that stage, and that’s what I’m going to channel.”

Ariana admitted that she’s been experiencing back pain lately, which has left her back “super swollen.” To try to tone it down, Ariana said she slept on a “cardboard box cart.”

“I’m just going to ignore the pain and hope I can make it to the end,” Ariana said.

Ariana and Pasha danced the rumba to “Cruel Summer”, which Derek described as “sensual and refined” and “a true rumba”.

“You commanded that stage over there,” Mandy told Ariana, calling her a “superstar.”

Ariana admitted to Julianne that the pain made the performance challenging.

“It’s been tough, but I feel like at this stage we’re all putting our bodies through so much,” the Bravo star said.

Jason Mraz and Daniella Karagach

Singer Jason Mraz complained in his opening package that his highest chart positions came in the first three weeks. “Seeing my name down there was a real wake-up call,” Jason said.

The Grammy winner told Daniela that he was worried about going home last week. “Last week was the first night I thought, ‘This could be it,'” he admitted.

Daniela brought her husband Pash to the practice to help Jason understand what Argentine tango should look like.

“I need everything to fall into place because I don’t want to go home,” Jason said. “This must be a trying week for me.”

After his Argentinian tango on “Don’t Blame Me,” Bruno cheered, “Reputation restored! You’re back with a big hit!”

Carrie Ann agreed. “I’m so proud of you!” she said to Jason.

Derek interjected, “My man Jason Mraz is back!”

Jason admitted to Julianne that he felt more pressure on Taylor Swift Night than on his debut performance.

“I was more nervous tonight than the first night because I have a history of forgetting moves,” he said.

But Jason regrouped and returned to the ballroom stronger. “I went home and petted my cat, I cried a little bit, I mediated, I did yoga and here I am,” said Jason Julianne. “I’m back.”

Harry Jowsey and Rylee Arnold

Too hot to handleThe group’s Harry Jowsey felt he and Rylee were “making steps in the right direction” when it came to their results, he said in his introductory package.

He was looking forward to performing the rumba to “August”. “I’m a huge Taylor Swift fan,” Harry said. “I think she’s amazing.”

Rylee showed Harry a video of her doing the rumba and worked with Harry on his hip movements. “I’ve been a big Gumby tree enough,” Harry said.

The judges felt that Harry’s preparation had paid off – somewhat. Carrie Ann told Harry after his performance that his vulnerability “captures everyone’s heart” but “you’ve still got work to do”.

Derek received boos from the audience when he told Harry that the reality star had a “blank face”. However, “you were comfortable, you had confidence,” Derek added.

Bruno noticed sparks flying between the sizzling pair of Harry and Rylee.

“The chemistry was palpable – were you actually kissing?” asked Bruno.

Charity Lawson and Artem Chigvintsev

Bachelor star Charity Lawson said in her opening package that “it feels amazing” to beat Xochitl Gomez in the Dance-Off last week.

Charity hoped to keep the momentum going and looked forward to doing so with an Argentine tango to “Look What You Made Me Do.” “This woman is unbeatable right now,” Charity said of Taylor.

The reality star gained a great reputation with the performance.

“You’ve got the best legs in this competition,” said Derek Charity.

Mandy told Charity that her Argentine tango “ticked all the boxes” but wanted to see “more unpredictability like snakebite”.

Bruno praised Charity for “drawing every line, every shape with supreme precision.”

“No one has lines as beautiful as you,” Carrie Ann agreed.

Julianne asked Charity if she felt ready to leave the competition after landing in the middle of the rankings last week, but Charity didn’t want to even consider the possibility.

“It’s just one big family and I’m so grateful and humbled to be enjoying this experience,” Charity said.

Xochitl Gomez and Val Chmerkovskiy

After receiving a perfect score last week, actress Xochitl Gomez told Val in her introductory package that she felt “so good.”

Xochitl attended the Eras Tour with her friends and couldn’t wait to tackle the Quickstep to “Paper Rings”. “I think she’s a wonderful role model,” the Marvel star said. “She really paved the way for young girls.”

Like Taylor, Xochitl has a close relationship with her mom, Jennifer. “Mom is always there for me,” Xochitl said. “She comes to rehearsals with me every day. She sacrificed a lot for me and I couldn’t have done any of this without my mom.”

Val and Xochitl invited Jennifer to practice and she confirmed that all the sacrifices she made for her daughter were “worth it to see Xochitl live her dreams.”

Xochitl was hoping for another perfect score with this week’s Quickstep. “That would mean a lot to me,” she said.

When Xochitl entered the ballroom, she made the whole place sparkle. After her routine, Mandy gave Xochitlo a friendship bracelet “because you were so good.”

“You’re the most animated and enthusiastic performer we’ve ever had and it’s a real pleasure to watch you,” Carrie Ann Xochitlu said, adding that she did, however, feel the Disney Channel student “lost his focus a little bit” during the performance.

Derek thought Xochitl had what it took to go all the way: “I want to see you in the final.”

Relay dances

Alfonso explained that each duo would be paired with another and perform the same song, in the same style, to earn three extra points from the judges. Going into the relay dances, Alyson found herself at the bottom of the rankings with a score of 29, while Jason’s perfect score put him at the top.

First, Ariana and Pasha faced Xochitl and Val, each performing the Viennese Waltz, which they tackled for the first time in Week 5, along with “Ljubavnik”. “It’s a real, even match,” Mandy said afterward. Carrie Ann announced that the judges ended up choosing Xochitl and Val to win the extra three points.

Then, in a rematch of last week’s Dance-Off, Harry and Rylee took on Alyson and Sasha with Jive to the song “Shake It Off”. “To beat Harry, I’m going to have to do some really technical choreography,” Alyson said during rehearsal. And she did. Harry and Rylee were first, but Alyson and Sasha ended up getting three extra points.

“It would be anything,” Alyson Julianne said of what it would mean to go to the semifinals. “I’m so… I love this process so much. I am so grateful. I like that. I’m making progress and I feel it.”

Jason and Danielle finished against Charity and Artem on Cha Chau on “Lavender Haze”. “I’m going to make sure this routine is perfect,” Jason said during practice. Mandy noted “a little extra sauce” in Jason’s performance, and Carrie Ann told the “I’m Yours” singer that she “got some swagger back.”

Accordingly, Jason and Daniella won the relay and the additional three points that came with it.

This kept Jason and Daniella at the top of the rankings with a score of 43 and dropped Harry and Rylee to the bottom with a score of 30.

the results

After the voting ended, Alfonso said Tuesday’s episode received more votes than any other night this season.

He and Julianne then revealed the couples that will go to the semi-finals: Ariana and Pasha, Xochitl and Val and Jason and Daniela. As a result, Charity and Artem, Harry and Rylee, and Alyson and Sasha took the final three spots.

Alfonso announced that based on a combination of viewer votes and judges’ scores, Harry and Rylee would be the ones going home only in the semi-finals.

Despite being eliminated, Harry felt honored to be a part of Rylee’s wildest dreams.

“It was so special,” Harry said of his DWTS experience. “I can’t believe we’ve come this far. And for Ryleena’s first season, it’s so amazing to see her living her dreams. I can’t believe I was a part of making her dreams come true.”
