Meghan McCain is educating her followers after facing a health scare last week.

On December 30, the former View The 40-year-old presenter took to Instagram to reveal that she had found a lump on her breast, encouraging others to stick with their routine check-ups.

“Last week I had to have a biopsy done on a mass in my breast and just got word that the test came back benign,” she wrote. “I can’t tell you how blessed, happy and relieved I am, but for every woman who follows this account or my work, PLEASE get a mammogram!!!”

“It’s so important and vital and something that I know a lot of us put off,” she continued. “I am 40 years old and this was a fear for me. Get a mammogram!!! Doctors, nurses, pathologists, mammography coordinators, all of these people are nothing but selfless angels who walk among us and I am forever grateful to each and every healthcare professional.”

“I wish you all a happy, blessed, HEALTHY New Year! 🙏🏻🙏🏻♥️♥️” she finished.

One in eight women in the United States is diagnosed with breast cancer, and mammograms are critical for early detection.

In May 2023, the US Preventive Services Task Force lowered the recommended age for breast cancer screening after an increase in diagnoses in younger people. The task force said science now shows that all women should start screening every other year at age 40, which could lead to 19% more lives saved.

In addition to following routine exams, health officials advise women of all ages to practice “breast self-awareness,” which means becoming familiar with what one’s own breasts typically look and feel like, so they’re more likely to recognize anything unusual during a breast self-exam.
