Would you kill for me? The story of Mary Bailey follows three women – a grandmother, her daughter and granddaughter – as they conspire to kill a violent man. The Lifetime movie is based on the real-life story surrounding Mary Elizabeth Bailey, whose mother instructed her to fatally kill her abusive stepfather when she was a child.

Bailey — who wrote a 2020 memoir My mother’s soldier about her experiences — recently told PEOPLE that the multiple perspectives presented in the film are crucial to better understanding what happened.

“No one is portrayed as so terrible that you have no empathy for that person,” she said in October. “But that’s what I really love about it, I think people can watch it and even if they’re going through something, they can sympathize or sympathize and understand what people are going through and why they’re going through what they’re going through.”

“It’s very emotional. But watching it and knowing that other people, hopefully millions of people, will watch this and be able to relate to this and find some hope, some healing through this film,” she continued. “I mean, it’s really good and I’m really excited about it. So it’s mostly focus, healing and hope for others.”
