Meryl Streep Breaks Her Own Record as Most-Nominated Actor in Golden Globes History

Meryl Streep makes history at the Golden Globe Awards.

Streep, 74, received her record 33rd career Golden Globe nomination when she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress (Musical, Comedy or Drama) for her role in the Hulu film Just the murders in the building at the upcoming 81st awards ceremony on Monday.

According to the Globes’ official website, Streep set the record for the most nominated actress of all time when she received her 30th nomination. She is also the actress with the most Globes wins of all time, winning a total of nine.

At the upcoming 2024 Golden Globe Awards, Streep is nominated alongside Elizabeth Debicki (Crown), Abby Elliott (Bear) Christina Ricci (Yellow vests) J. Smith-Cameron (Succession) and Hannah Waddingham (Ted Lasso).

Streep was recently honored with the Cecil B. DeMille Award during the 2017 ceremony, where she memorably criticized then-President-elect Donald Trump, though she never mentioned him by name.

The awards show also noted when it announced the 2024 nominees that Streep and Jodie Foster, who was nominated for her role in the Netflix film Nyadboth have been nominated or won awards in every decade since the 1970s.

Foster, 61, is nominated alongside Emily Blunt (Oppenheimer), Danielle Brooks (Purple), Julianne Moore (May December), Rosamund Pike (Saltburn) and Da’Vine Joy Randolph (The Holdovers) for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for Nyadin which he stars with Annette Bening, nominated for Best Actress (Drama).

Barbie received a total of nine nominations on Monday and leads the films in total nominations; Oppenheimer followed by eight, i Flower killers Month and Poor people both received seven nominations. On the television side, Streep’s Just the murders in the building got five nods along with Bearwhile Successionthe last season received a total of nine nominations.

The awards show added two new categories this year: film and cinematographic achievement in motion pictures and best stand-up comedian on television. The awards show in January will mark the first Golden Globes broadcast under Dick Clark Productions and the Eldridge holding company, which bought the rights and assets of the long-running awards show in June.

The Golden Globes were previously run by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which was founded in 1943 and has faced a number of high-profile controversies over its handling of the show in recent years.

The 2024 Golden Globe Awards will air live on CBS on Sunday, January 7, from 8 to 11 p.m. ET, immediately following NFL on CBS Sunday duel. The show will also air on Paramount+ and be available on the CBS app.
